Okay, I'm trying to strengthen up my template a little and add some more defences. Currently I look like this:
Master Rifleman - Fencer 4440 - Swordsman 3040
I'm wanting to add some pistoleer and make him look like this:
Master Rifleman - Fencer 4440 - Swordsman 0040 - Pistoleer 0040
Do you guys think this would give me effecting numbers on defence?
If so, what is the recommended method for grinding that pistoleer branch from Novice Pistoleer? (I already got Novice just in case!)
Thanks!!

I had 0-0-4-0 pistoleer as my only form of extra defence for a whileand never had an issue with it in PvP.

Thanks guys for setting my mind at ease about making this important change to my template. Now I just have to start the painful grind to 0040..

Ive spent a very large portion of my time in game with x44x fencer and xx4x as my state defenses, done a fair amount of pvp and more pve than i care to think about. With those state defenses i never had to worry about states landing on me. When states actually did stick, and they will eventually if theyre being spammed at you, never had much trouble with the dreaded dizzy/kd flop. The stun and blind states where always more of an annoyance than any real threat. The only time i ever groaned was when an intimidate landed on me, not much defense vs. intimidate in this game period at the moment. Also, a little tip about dizzy/kd, you shouldnt have to many really vicious flops going with these lines for state defense, if you do get flopped, dont spam the stand button. Even if you are standing, hittin the stand key still counts as a posture change and will cause you to be right back on your back immediately after standing up. Hit stand one time, youll see the 'u so dizzy u flop' bit, repeat till your standing.

No fret, pistols is the absolute easiest ranged profession to get to and grind out. You're best range is close and all mobs will argo you anyways, plus they are naturally the fastest weapons. As you know, speed is the number one thing for non-masters. Even though 0-0-4-0 doesn't give you any speed/accuracy or good attacks to grind with, it can still be done if a buff or 2.
