basic recon armor gives you no hinderences, and would make a world of difference.

My Name is CPL Audri Fisher. Master Rifleman until the day I die.

I don't believe so. I see guys walking around in Scout Trooper Armor with a ton of hindrances. They of course have the certs, but haven't mastered enough to lessen the hindrances.

Basic recon armor is what you should look for, but try finding it. It is more of a quest to find basic armor than it is to get to the point to be able to use it. Spent a ton of time on Corellia looking for basic scout armor and ended up going with armor with hinderances just so I had some armor.

Kind of like finding a doctor to heal wounds at a hospital. Next to impossible to do.

Rifleman can wear recon armor, but the hindrance mitigation doesn't become effective until you increase your Rifleman skills. Check each skill box - it will tell you what % mitigation you will receive with that skill (if any). Once you make Master there will be absolutely no hindrances whatsoever for recon armor.

Although for some reason, even though you make Master Rifles, you still have a movement speed hindrance for carrying a ranged weapon. Seems like this would go away with Master, but hey, I don't write the code I just play the game.

If you are having trouble finding armor, use the Vendor Location tab on the Bazaar Terminals. You can search the entire galaxy for armor on every single vendor in the galaxy. Create a waypoint to one that has what you want and you're on your way!

Just make sure you are looking on the Vendor Locations tab at the top and not the Auctions (or whatever its called) tab that comes up by default. There is very rarely any good quality armor on the bazaar considering max sale price there is 20k creds.

A word of advice with the various armor types. In general, the 3 classes follow these rules:

Assault Armor (Shock Trooper): Great Kinetic resists, very poor energy resists.

Battle Armor (Stormtrooper): All around, decent protection.

Recon Armor (Scout Trooper): Great Energy resists, poor Kinetic protection.

Assault Armor is great if you intend on being close quarters or melee alot. But guys standing back with energy weapons (i.e.E11 Mk.II / T21) will make mincemeat out of you.

Recon Armor is excellent if you intend to fight mostly factional warfare or other range-based opponents. Effective against energy based weapons (alot of the ranged weapons), it will serve you well. Until something starts coming up to you and pounds you. Recon Armor isn't ideal for PvE against creatures.

Battle Armor is my favorite. It does the job, all the time. 'Nuff said. Not to mention Battle Armor in general looks fabulous. It serves me well with my MBH/MCarbineer character. If the Jedi stays with Lightsabers, well, it'll hurt anyways, but the damage done isn't catastrophic if I was wearing Assault. If the Jedi pulls out his kinetic rifle, i.e. Wookie Assault Bowcasters (quite mean, BTW. Nice weapon), then the Battle Armor protects me enough from catastrophic damage.

If the Jedi uses Force Powers, well, us normal professions are just screwed!

That's true, but there is another way for a novice profession. Armorsmith's can make three types of cores for their armor, basic, standard, and advanced. Almost all armorsmiths just make the advanced cores in an attempt to max out their protections. If you don't want the heavy hinderence, you can have a suit made (almost definately a custom order) with only basic or standard cores. You won't get maxed out protection, but you can avoid heavy hinderences too.
