Well, your pistols aren't shooting up to 65m are they?
I agree though...pistols got a lot of loving in the CURB, while Rifles and Carbs got hung out to dry.
Our advantage is in rifle specials that have better multipliers to do more damage with an equally stated gun, but any pistoleer can use a pistol and out specials as well and the pistol does the same damage. Not to menation the fact that there are way more new pistols in quests now. I would bet there are more new pistols than there are Rifles and Carbs combined.
You need to get some good rifles made custom for you. Check out the weaponsmith boards to see what they are capable of making and what they need to make each weapon.
It looks like you have a fwg5 that is at the cap for pistol dmg which is good, but very high in SAC, which is bad for a pistol. A good T21 should have a max dmg above 1100 and a SAC of 84. Speed isn't what you are looking for in a rifle (which means do not worry about the dps at all, your speed mods and specials make that value misrepresent a good rifle). You want hard hitting from far away and as long as the speed is below2.8 you will have better damage than your pistol andbe able to shootfrom 65m.
Your pistol will still be usefull, but you will probably want to trade it in for one with a SAC below 80. I think they can get it around 72 but I forget the low cap on SAC for pistol. The other stats onyour fwg5are top of the line so try to find a pistol that has close to those numbers but less SAC. Use the pistol when close up and when you need to shoot in a hurry. With a fast speed the pistols can dish out a lot of specials in a short time and have better kiting when the creature gets close due to lower encumbrance.
If you find a pistol with the same dmg as your fwg5 and it has an elemental dmg for over 100, it will definitely be better than a T21 or ALR because it will do the same dmg with less SAC and more speed, so hang onto it till they fix elemental dmg. At least that is how I read the elemental dmg to work, haven't seen it in action yet.
