Thread: Secondary Defenses and Accuracy

I was just wondering if anyone here knows how Block, Counter and Dodge work?

In another post it came up that since these secondary defenses only get calculated after a hit, accuracy has nothing to do with weather a dodge or block actually happens. This sounds logical to me, since accuracy is in the calculation on a hit or miss, it is ignored on the secondary defense calculation.

If this is true, does anyone know what triggers a block or dodge? They must be using the dodge mod in a calculation with another number or set of numbers to figure out the success of a dodge. I recenty thought it could have had something to do with accuracy, but now I don't know at all.

Do any of you know how this is calculated, or have any educated guesses?

Good question, I'd be interested in hearing an answer as well. It very well could do with accuracy I suppose.

I justalways assumed that the secondary defenses kicked in after you were hit. These assumptions were based on both the combat spam saying "so and so hits you for xxx damage but youblock it!" and for the fact that you can still take the status effect even on a successfull dodge/block/counterattack (i.e. you block the hit but you are still stunned)

But you are right, it seems that these secondary defense numbers must be "rolled" against something, unless it is just random. Like with 125 dodge/block/counterattack you always have a 20% chance for a success or something like that. Maybe someone actually did tests on different accuracies verses different levels of block/dodge/counterattack but I kind of doubt it. There's a guy by the name of InquisitorPayne who seems to know alot about the combat equations, I think he has done a lot of tests, so perhaps I will send him a PM and see if he has any insight into it.

So far, my test revealed, that accuracy is used as a competitive factor in the calculation.

Basically you roll accuracy vs. defense mod.

I know that because different accuracy on the same target results in different success chances.

Unfortunately, i haven't been able to figure out the correct formula, yet.I am still looking into it from time to time, but i am not doing any serious testing currently.

The closes approximation i was able to field, was a modified to-hit formula, where i exchanged the primary defense with the secondary defense, since stance seems to have an impact on the success chance.

But the results of this series still did not satisfy me, so i threw them aside.

If i know more, i will let you know.

Can't say how much I respect this part of that post.

Being able to set aside a personal theory when the data doesn't fit is not always an easy thing to do.
