Got my cdef and headed off for some low ham action, couldnt find a DL20a anywhere until 5 stormtroopers jumped me.Grabbed my stun baton and looted 1 off the first imp, how lucky is that? Several Cupas later I got rifles 2 and headed off to buy a laser rifle 63-403 damage and managed to get rifles 4 by the time I logged off. Since I'm a doc I wasn't too fussy about my targets since I'm buffed, can heal states etc and my stats are already migrated to make rifles easier.

So I just wanted to say I'm enjoying it so far though I'm a little worried how I'll fare once all my fencer dodge and skill mods disappear. Since I dont have the pts to mix a melee class with it and get my melee defences up, will I still be able to solo rancors for quick cash missions (rifle specials, cover and kiting etc) by the time I hit master or will it be better to do while grouped with an effective tank from now on?

Your dodge skill mod won't apply anyway while you're holding a rifle, as your chance to dodge is only calculated when you have a fencer or pistol weapon equipped.
As for your other mods, yes, a novice rifleman has poor defences, but at master they're reasonable (40 melee def, 72 ranged def and some mediocre state defences with no other combat skills or tapes), but not in the same league as a fencer.

But then at master, you can deal a lot more damage than a fencer can, and do it out of melee range. And as a doc, state defences don't matter so much with the universal /healstate self.

For quick cash missions, join a big group and do janta or mokk missions on your own (only in the group to gain access to level 99+ misions). From a player city with the improved job market tag, these pay 30k+ and can be done very fast with area attacks on the lair, which will take down all the npc's. Add in the lack of lair spawn, these can be done in about a minute from getting off your bike.

I am a Master Rifleman/Master Doc, andI gave up melee masteries to pickup Master Doc, but I already had Master Rifleman all along. So while I can somewhat relate, I cannot say exactly what it will be like giving up melee to pickup Rifleman. But I can tell you that, having Master Doc will make a big difference in what you can solo. And while you will be getting less proficient in melee as you do this, you will simultaneously be gaining in Rifle, so it should balance out somewhat. But there will be a point somewhere in the middle where you will be only mediocre at both, so you will have to be careful for a time.

The previous poster is correct. While holding a rifle, your fencer dodge modifiers are not working. They only work while you are holding the appropriate weapon. On the other hand, if I understand him correctly, he is incorrect about the Rifleman melee defenses being okay. The +40 melee defense is virtually useless while you are holding a rifle. There is a huge melee to-hit bonus against us which completely negates most, if not all, melee defenses while you are holding a rifle. On the other hand, the +40 (all from Rifle Special Abilities) will stack with your melee defenses from Fencerwhile you are holding a fencer weapons, so there is some benefit from themwhen you have to switch to melee. Ironically because of this, at even when you get down to Novice Brawler, if you have Rifle Special Abilities IV at that point, while holding a brawler weapon, you will have more melee defense than a Master Swordsman/Master Brawler (+40 vs +27).

In all, I do not think the transition will be that difficult for you. It will be easy at first when your rilfle skills do not amount to much and you can fall back on stronger fencer skills. It will be reasonably easy towards the end of the grind because if you do have to switch to melee, even though your melee skills at that point will not be all that great, your rifle will have done a lot of damage before you had to, so there will be less to do, and your Master Doc skills will help you survive. The middle, where you are only OK at both will be where you have to be careful.

I have been a rifleman for a long time and I have yet to wear armor while PVE hunting. Want to solo an Ancient BulL Rancor?

Once you are a master, you can walk to about 70m away with Mask Scent. Go prone and Take Cover. Crawl to 65m and conceal shot it til dead.

Music Buffs, Brandy and a nicely balanced T21 (dmg vs Mind cost) are the key. A high Dmg T21 sounds great until you figure it is hitting your mind for 120 per CS. Find a lower ham T21 and do a tad less dmg per shot, but let it hit your mind for 80-90 per and your buffs will let you spam away for hours.

ehehe

be lucky you're doctor.

i cant do rancors even doing conceal cause they get wounded and i end up diseased or poisoned (i forgot which one is it that they do)

if you have enough points left over i suggest you get ranged support 4. aiming and supression fire is very nice to have. occasionally warning shots come in handy as well.

Hi folks,

Did my third day yesterday! By the time I got the 125k xp for novice which was pretty quick on Dantooine (about 3 savage quenker lairs and a couple of pikets), once I found an npc trainer I already had 300k combat xp in the bank so that made me 0003 straight off the mark. Did a bit of grinding yesterday doing quenks and voritors to get 1103 (now I've got conceal shot ill concentrate on accuracy while speed takes care of itself, if I'm planning this wrong please let me know), the problem is I hate Dantooine. The lag and the unreliabilty of missions is starting to **** me off. I spend half the time looking for 2 missions in the same direction only to find empty waypoints when I got there, not to mention the 30% of missions that don't pay out when you get destroy the lair. So I'll head off to Lok for a day or two to harvest some of the ok avian spawn and kill some stuff to bring back my grinding enthusiasm. I don't need to say too much about the T21 since I started using it though I think I need to see an image designer to make myself bigger than the rifle and make an appointment with an osteopath to straighten my spine back out. Any suggestions for breaking the grind strain please post, how about the G Lab? although most of my guildmates arent big quest players and the last time I tried it, I think I'd struggle a tad if I did it solo.

anyway,

Hell, with a good DXR6B at master, just headshot3 the ancient bull and it'll be dead by the time it reaches you.
