Thread: Strafe 2 might not be the best damage special in your bag of tricks...

OK, I ran the data for my guns through this nice damage-per-second calculator that somebody posted:

http://killyourpc.org/swg/swg_dps.php

At master rifleman with +90 rifle speed, the calculator says that my best damage per second comes not from strafe 2, but from startle 2 and flushing 2! Anybody wanna double check this and see if you come up with the same conclusion?

I noticed he has flurry 2 with a 2.0 damage instead of 4.0, which I think it is, but the numbers in question here look right.

Any comments? This is making me rethink my PvP specials.

Correct you need the Speed cap for Strafe 2 to be worth while, if not capped Flushing is the way to go(Same damage as Startle but with a Stun State effect).

OK, I always just assumed that the speed cap was something you reached when you got master. Would someone explain it to me? Is it a matter of a specific rifle speed reached through skill tapes, etc?

You will hit the 'speed cap' at Master. But there is a seperate cap for Strafeshot 2 (best damage multiplier and longest delay) as opposed to Headshot 2 for example. To cap on speed with an average T-21(slowest useable rifle) using Strafeshot 2(slowest special), you'll need about +97 rifle speed. Which is 7 more than you get at Master.

That's actually a common mistake I've seen froma lot ofrifleman. I've seen so many rifleman using strafe2 with 90 speed, I always get a nice chuckle out of it. Unless they're trying to KS a krayt from me, I usually offer them some friendly advice that they should probably switch to flushing2.

Between 90 and 97 speed, the best attack is actually a little more complex if you take into account pups. With an average T21, the best attack will usually be flushing2/startle2 with a speed pup until around 93, at that point strafe2 with a speed pup overtakes slightly, then it switches back to flushing2/startle2 with a dmg pup at around 95, and then at 96 or 97 strafe2 with dmg pup retakes the lead. Obviously the breakpoints will vary depending on your rifle's speed, but it is something that you will want to look into yourself to determine the best attack.
