I've not seen any case where a T21 isn't the best weapon for a Master Rifleman. I tried a good quality Distrupter, with Acid damage, but still the T21 seems to outgun it every time. Is there any reason not to just stay with my trusty T21, and to put my rifle upgrade credits into the best T21 I can afford?

It's going to depend on the resist levels really. The T21 does 25% more damage than the DXR-6b because the T21 is one level higher in AP. However if the target is AR3 than the T21 will do 50% more damage.

You then have to factor in the resists. If the resists are pretty close than the T21 is the better bet. But if the energy resist level is 25% or more higher than the acid than the DXR-6b would be better. Unless the MOB is AR3. Then you woulduse the 50% more to compare.

Also, if you don't have 97 Rifle speed, the DXR-6b might allow you to cap out strafe2.

thats true there are some very nasty nighsisters on dathomir with 100%energy res...i even remember nightsisters in the ns spider cave with 100%energy,stun and cold dmg...glad i had a disruptor rifle with me that day

also, juvenile krayt dragons fall faster to a dxr6-B than to a "equivalent" T21.

it's all about resists.

Geno cave has MOBs that are best taken with a DXR6 - the droids are much less resistant to acid than energy and I believe the enhanced kwis are best taken with a dxr6. Mokks are something high like 80% energy resistant, but 30% or less acid resistant, so they too are best taken with a different gun than the T21. But, you're right, for the most part, the T21 is our bread and butter.
