Just wondering if my experiences are normal. And if being a rifleman is supposed to be this way.

I stand at max range, go prone, shoot twice or once to kill a white con or less.

Most red cons that used ranged attacks (such as humanoids with guns) rarely win.

If my pet can hold off a melee red con long enough I can also kill it without too much difficulty.

But if a meleeblue con that dies in one hit runs up next to me, I have a serious risk of death due to missing over and over.

Melee red cons kill in two hits.

i don't want to sound like a badass.. im not one but i noticed that when im solo as a rifleman i do better.. than in groups. i can kill most things... due to the AI being really bad. but here is a some quick tips for u riflemen.

1. go prone and use mindshot1 or 2 two times then use head shot.. it work good for me

2. use flurry shot on humanoids. sorta like a cheap knockdown but it helps.

3. don't be scared to run.

4. conceal shot.. at 65m sorta like cheating but hey... it's called conceal shot for a reason.

these are th only tips i ahve for right now.. im not a master rifle man.. still novice but these methods have worked for me time and time again.

as for master rifleman im sure all use novice guys could use a lil more guidance.

as for melee people they should fear us alot.. from 60m

"go prone and use mindshot1 or 2 two times"

Use them both once, with your combat pane open, see if either hits for low damage and if it does reapply it.

A spraystick (or scoutblaster), warning shot and suppression fire are your friends

hmm... I never thought to abuse the spraystick's fast rate of fire with specials like warning shot...

Is warning shot or threaten shot better? What's the difference?

definetly get a spraystick. it's the rifleman sidearm and no non-master rifleman should be without one. it's the difference between life and death.

warning shot is yer friend, so is suppression. get good at these and you'll be dropping 9-10k ham animals in no time (look for slower ones that won't be on you in 2 seconds in case they resist a couple shots) *cough* pikets on dantooine *cough*.

When attacking a group of social animals.. sometimes if you go prone, throw mindshot two and peace immediatly (like just BEFORE the shot goes off, but the shot goes off because of lag anyway) you can often dot him without his friends getting mad. Get up, walk out to 75 meters range, wait for the tick. when it ticks he'll come runnin out all by his lonesome.. abuse our huge bleeds, warning shot and suppression shot till dead, rinse, repeat.

Hotkey yer big rifle and yer spraystick so you can easily switch between them. When using the spray stick, learn the timing, but you have to fire the warning shot and peace before it goes off or you'll shoot him again. If you shoot him after he's been warned he'll just start chasing again. never use the spraystick to deal damage unless you are sure they have no armor rating and you are just letting it fire normally except for warning and cover.

npcs with guns are desired marks, we have the advantage in a fire fight. Prone, two dots, flurry shot, suppression fire. Watch the little symbol in the top right corner showing if he's standing, prone, knocked down or whatever. Most npcs with guns will attempt to get prone. If he manages to get prone startleshot him to kneeling. If you don' thave startle shot get up and run to 70 meters and watch that symbol, when he gets up to chase you he'll probably fall over. Learn duration so you know when to reapply dizzy.

Suppression fire also prevents the target from firing for 5 seconds, it has more use than just forcing them to kneeling (duel yer friend sometime to test this and get a hang of just how long the target can do nothing.)

Well, I disagree with many of things u say here... like the kind of rifles, the specials and so on. I can easily tank kimos with no die (without using conceal).

But that hard-to-gain-exp is hard to get... so I make and advice. Dont use tusken and use Laser rifle.

My opinion: Sparaysticks are junk. No better close range sidearm than a two handed curved sword.

You can't WarningShot with a sword, can you?

The reason for using WarningShot is to drive the target back to rifle range so rifle XP can be gained. That said, I use a pistol for WarningShot for the simple reason that it doesn't always take. If it doesn't, and I get meleed (sp?) with a spraystick in my hinds, it's Good Night, Gracie.

Also, keep in mind that you need to Peace after each WarningShot. If you just keep firing, the WarningShot may take but you'll just re-aggro the mob.

Pistol here for WS as well. I'm using a scout blaster with no cert, works fine for WS it seems.

I'm only novice ss, but I'd recommend using a fast pistol for warning shot. There is no question are you going to get hit, and when you do it won't be for 2.5x damage.

This is my strategy for my favorite animals on Talus (berserk khammura, famished sludge panther, kima)

-Go prone...mindshot once...headshot twice

-Stand up, equip pistol, start running backwards

-Warning shot him away then peace and chase after him

-When he recovers and comes after you again, repeat warning shot until he reachesa mind level where his run speed drops off(you can throw aheadshot in betweenwarning shot hits if you are good...and lucky)

-When his run speed drops off, refresh the mindshot and finish him off withyour best dps rifle

Finding the right animals to hunt is just as important as strategy. Some take forever to slow down, some hardly any. I generally stay away from fast flying birdsand mites.
