Thread: Good PvP Tip for the avg rifleman
Well for the longest time I have been PvPing with a dmg sliced laser rifle. It does about 683 max dmg and about 2-3 hits kills most people. Sometimes I would get lucky and if they had low mind I could take them down in 1 shot but that was pretty rare.
Now what I just discovered is this. We all know that at master level we can spam our best shots at about 1 per second. Well I did the next best thing. Instead of having to wait to become a master to get the uber speed I purchase a regular high dmg laser rifle. Getting one speed sliced isnt all that difficult since thats what most slices give anyway. My laser was 399 max dmg, 49 min dmg, and 5.7 speed. I got it speed sliced down to 4.1. Took me about 4 slices to get here so not to bad. Only about 65-80k depending on the vender you buy them all from.
Get your speed sliced laser and add a 32% speed powerup. The speed should be around 2.6 or so. Now I am about 1/2 to way to master. I am currently 4-1-0-2. I wanted the sniper tittle... Anyway I am not a master but I can spam HS2 about every 2.275 seconds. My rifle speed is 50. Im still gathering apprentice points for master marksman...
Here is the equation to calculating speed:
Actual speed = weapon_speed * shot_penalty * (( 100 - rifle speed) * .01)
Example: Speed = 2.275 = 2.6 * 1.75("Speed penalty for HS2") *((100 - 50("My Speed")) * .01)
What this means is even players who are only 1/2 the way to master can spam mind shots at other players almost as fast as a bounty hunter can. Now I wouldnt recomend MS3 because even with 50 rifle speed it would take nearly 4 seconds per shot and it barley does more dmg than HS2 in PvP. Its speed penalty is 2 so it makes for a much slower speed. Plus it just sucks your mind pool dry.
I rarley PvP but after tonight I feel I at least have a fighting chance. I killed about 8 people in a row tonight doing this. Most people go down in about 4-5 shots. Some even go down in about 3 just because no one likes to pay attention to their mind pool. So what that means is most fights are over in about 8-10 seconds with this tactic. I thought the rest of the rifleman community needed something like this since there are so few advantages for riflemen who have yet to reach the level of master. At least this will give you a fighting chance.
Note for master marksmen at this level:
At this same level a master marksman gets a +5 rifle speed bonus so their total speed would be 2.0475 with the scenario above. Thats more than a quarter of a second per shot. Dosnt sound like much but since a standard fight with this tactic isnt going to last but about 8-10seconds that will cut an entire second off the battle. Since most players you will come up against will be using something much faster than a rifle, this extra 1/4 of a second will benefit you very greatly.
Great tip. Get a decent level WS to make some Quick-Charge Couplers of Compensation if there aren't any on the market - top-end ones offer 33% speed reduction and 16% mind cost reduction, which is pretty much tailor-made for the rifleman!
Yours,
I would add another tip...
Muon Gold. Spam shots all day long and extra ham against the BH's eyeshot.
Oh there is one other thing I didnt add in the original post. Since this was all done with a laser rifle the results may vary if you use something such as an E11 or something. I have seen some prety high dmg E11s that are just about as fast as a speed sliced laser but their dmg is more consistant.
I killed 8 people in a row last night with this tactic but my last person I tried to attack, I got off 4 shots in a row that were all under 100dmg... So the laser may be great but sometimes it dosnt give you the shots you really need or want.
Since armor piercing dosnt work in PvP this may be a good tactic to use if you can get your hands on a high powered DLT20a or a good E11. Your PvP dmg may be much more consistent doing this. I think I am going to try this out with both of these rifles later this weekend. I just spent all of my money on composite armor so no more left for doing these experiments. Oh also a very fast T21 may be just about as affective if you can get a super speed slice on it.
If anyone around or about this same level has tried these tactics please post it here to show your results. As for me I am still working my way up the tree but stll like to PvP. Any helpfull PvP advice would be much apreciated for us non-masters.
Could we make this a sticky or cut and past it into the tips section?
Its really good.
Im a quarter of the way to master rifle. I have hs 3 and ms2 and conceal shot.
Im sick of my T21 even tho the speed slice is down to a 6 somthing the blue ham cost is 70. I was wondering if some of you could post your stats for your E11?
dont get muon gold
get food that adds to str / quick / focus
you can spam all day with no reduction

Its not either or, use food, but if you are hitting strafe II your mind can eventually drain at master because you are using a high drain shot every second. So, if your mind gets too low then hit the muon, instant mind charge and good to go for another 10 min.
You can use both together, works great
Only really need over ~1525, I've been using one BoH and one Ryshcate(sp?), and it gets me just over 1525 (focus maxed at 650). It currently costs me at most 4 mind per shot for my worst rifle. A 100-704 laser rifle (hams 60?/60?/110, with stock and scope. Love the +75 to ideal range). And on any regular rifle, only costs 1 point of ham. (could eat a second ryshcate, but save it for later so I can pretty much go for the full time of teh BoH with little or no ham costs)

Acctually, except in a few special cases, a rifleman should _always_ go for damage over speed.
Let's say you put on a 33% damage powerup on one rifle and a 33% speed powerup on one rifle.
Both will still do the same damage per second. But, the mind cost hasn't changed. Meaning that the rifle with the speed powerup will require 33% more mind to inflict the same amount of damage during the same amount of time.
There's also the issue once you get up in rifle speed. Once you start capping your speed any speed improvements are totally useless. You might not easily cap it with strafe shot 2, but if you use mind bleeds or HS2 you will.
Of course, speed sliced rifles aren't totally crap. They are good for the specials that cause effects other than damage. Getting in a quick sniper shot, or quickly doing flurry and posture down would be easier with a speed sliced weapon. But then I would rather recommend to have a speed sliced DLT20a for this, as the damage itself is not important, just the speed.
