WOW, I just heard this on the fencer forums of all places....is this true?

I haven't had much time to play my rifleman/ranger recently...this is very exciting if true!

Yes, but there are tons of other changes to the combat system. This is just one aspect. There are others (like damage mitigation or the to-hit bonus that melee attackers get against us now) that influence combat. This is a good thing, but unless someone gets on Testcenter with a Rifleman char and does some extensive testing, we don't know if it's and even trade-off or if we actually got a boost...

Yeah I've got a brawler too on starsider and that damage mitigation thing seems ok...

I fear this will be the end of our better damage. what are we going to hold up to the people crying nerf now that we are basicly the same as a pistol (at master we shot just as fast and do more damage)? How do we balence our better damage vs pistoles now?

Yes, I was thinking of this as well...

We are no longer the combat class that depletes "the un-healable" mind pool. All classes are like this. Why should we stand alone with the one, that I know of, heavy armor piercing weapon available? What will have to change to bring this into the new scheme of things?

I see a lot of people dropping Pistols and Carbines in favor of rifles. What is the incentive to choose those weapons now?

Bah,I'd vather just keep the 2.5mod yes its a pain in the ass but it made it harder for us.. and I don't want my dmg output to be shot down because to many people whined about the mod, even though we all knew about it when we started rifles I-IV in marksman

I fear the balancing check we will be getting is the speed cap. I'm not sure if the devs are still adding it, but if they do we will be firing at a max of 3 seconds a shot(Making the spraystick useless) and pistoleers will have their cap at a measly .5 seconds a shot. I have seen many pistols with a max damage of over 200 and if they can fire that at every .5 seconds thats insane.

UGH! just when I start to figure the game out they're going to totally change it? I always thought the 2.5x dam was a nice touch, makes me sweat a little when I /prone and, generally, seemed a good balance issue. .5 second pistols and 3 sec rifles would just suck. I hope they wack the pistols max range (i'd like to see pistols at like -20, 30, -150 optimal at 20m or so, none of this shyat of pistoleers picking off people at 60m. But that's just IMHO.

But really, nothing can be a game if you don't know what the rules are, can they just leave the (undocumented, nearly indecipherable) game mechanics well enough alone for a while? Don't they have like 20 serious bugs per class to fix or something? Then again, i'm TK/Rifles so I suppose I'll probably benefit one way or another.

There is a better explanation on the BH forum.

Mitigation is going to totally screw us on high end PVP. I don't think we have to worry about a nerf because mitigation will make us that more uneffective.

My Rifleman character's range on his T21 is 200, my smuggler's range on his FWG5 is100 and my Bh's range on his Krayt Scatteris 100. My rifleman loses 120 damage while my Smuggler and BH lose 60 damage.
