Are there any pretty basic hunting tactics a rifleman should be using in PvE?

1: Is it mostly just using mind/headshot?

2: Is there any certain number of meters i should try to stay away from an enemy? or just where my gun has best accuracy?

3: Prone?

4: which special abilties (take cover) should i use and when to use them?

5: If enemy starts approaching should i stand up.... kneel.... or run while shooting

On big game, use /concealshot. You don't have to take cover.

On medium sized game, use MS1&2, then hit them with HS2after the firstbleed ticks.

With conceal shot, go to max range. Otherwise, go to the most accurate spot or 50m, whichever is furthest away.

Prone for conceal.

I take cover rairly. Mostly when I am fighting stormies, and they go prone. Even then, it is only 10% if that.

Run away? Might be a good idea. The decreased accuracy might kill you. You'll learn from experience. Remeber, you have a novice marksman skill that negates the point blank penalty. I use it fairly often.

I think it depends on what skill level you are at.. since you'll have different shots available to you. I'm very low.. just have MS2 and I use a pet... nothing special, just a Krevol.. I have two so I can swap them out when one gets beat on too much.

I also have mask scent, so I get 3 shots before the enemy agros on me.

I usually hit something w/ MS1 then MS2 (I don't know if MS2 then MS1 is better..i've seenmost people do that though).

Then I send my pet inwhilemy third hit is a suppresion fire shot. That'll freeze the enemy so my pet can get to it. This way I insure that the pet takes the least amount of damage. Then I start spaming HS2. That's pretty much it for most things I deal with.. The krevol is pretty tough, so he can take a beating from a lot of things..

I don't have conceal shot yet.. I do have the xp for it, I just haven't learned it yet. I will give that a whirl when I play next to see how that works out.. a lot of people here use it to take down things they wouldn't stand a chance against with any other tactic.

If my pet actually dies and I get charged, I'll usually switch to my carbine or pistol and as I'm running away I spam Warning shot... Sometimes I'll kill the thing off as it bleeds to death, or I'll end up just escaping.

But it really all depends on what shots you have available.. Most people here that are higher up seem to swear by strafe shot.. or startle shot ... or maybe both... I don't know, I'll just let them tell you all about it

As a Master Rifleman, I found my Tactics changed considerably as I worked my way through the trees, but here is how I do it these days.

1. Tank in pet.
2. Hit Muon/Food
3. Spam Strafe2.
4. Hit Stimpack on self when Health/Action are nearly gone.
5. Continue spamming either Strafe2 or Headshot2.

I suppose you could alter that somewhat if you have more limited skills available. I personally only use Bleeds on Big Game with High Resists, otherwise my speed allows me to tear through a target before the bleed even takes effect. You'll find that it will be faster for you to bleed a target untill you get to Abilities 4, so if you have Combat XP saved, use it for Rifleman skills, most of what you get from the Ranged support line is rather useless, IMO. I've never had suppression fire, or anything else from there, so I really can't say how useful it would have been. Also, for progression, get your accuracy up first. Once you have the Sniper tag, you should be hitting with nearly every shot, which is quite important if you want to have the best chance of taking down your target before it is in your face.

Good Hunting!
