Thread: Defensive stacks

Hi there everyone just a quick question on something. Im going to be a wookie rifleman thinking about CH with that, but was wondering about stacking defence of a rifleman, pistoleer and carbineer all together just defence, Example defence vs stun for a rifleman 30 + defence vs stun for a pistoleer 30 + defencevs stun for a carbineer 30 would thisgive me90 vs stun or still just 30 or would it also depend on the weaponin my hand at the time pls help me out

all defenses stack with any weapon in hand, EXCEPT for the Block, Counterattack, and Dodge modifiers.


Dodge is Pistol/1hand sword.


Counterattack is Carbine/2handsword


Block is Rifle/Pike(Polearm)



afaik anyways. and block doesn't seem to be working quite right -

Posted this in another thread in the Sword forum, but they pretty much missed the mark when they paired up the melee/ranged professions. Pistol/Fencer get the stackable defense mods and both target Health. Carbine/Sword and Rifle/Pike are just plain backwards though.

I have a skill tape with counterattack. I have not natural counterattack with master ranger / Master sharpshooter. But that +2 tape has done wonders, many times in the combat log I see that I counter attack, very nice.

I'm pretty sure that the counterattack's you are seeing in your combat spam are a result of your Block mod. It mis-represents itself in combat spam so thatBlock actually shows up as "counterattack".


you're not supposed to be able to Counterattack unless you're fighting with a 2hand sword, or a carbine - afaik.


not even sure block is working entirely correctly, atm... hehe

Just a question regarding this.


I am a Master Rifleman and I have 80 Block. Now I am going to go up the Pikeman tree to get the Defence bonuses there. Ie Block and defense against dizzy etc.


If I am armed with a Rifle will the Stats I have in Pikeman add together with the same stats (Block) from Rifleman?

from what i read in the fencer forum, YES, they should stack. (block from pike and block from rifle) providing you're holding either a pike weapon or a rifle.


i tested the dodge with a pistoleer guildmate. he has no fencer ability at all, but has pistoleer Dodge mods. I lent him a vibro blade (Fencer weapon) and shot at him, he was dodging quite a bit. so obviously dodge stacks -


hopefully block is the same way.

if you really want to test it - go buy a pike (or borrow one) and have someone take pot shots at you, (this will only work if you have no pikeman trees) - if you block/"counterattack" then they stack.


by my reasoning...

Master rifle and master fencer would give much better bonuses than only the defense lines from pistol/carbine/rifle.


Carbineer only gets +27 ranged defense, +15 knockdown and +25 intimidate so it's not worth learning just for defensive bonuses, and fencer has mostly the same kd/dizzy/intimidate/etc bonuses as pistoleer but gets MUCH higher ranged/melee defense.

Why worry about blocking specials when they miss you all together! Take a look at the 4th TKA tree...

The fact that they didn't link the defensive skills of sword and rifle is the reason I decided I'd start working on TK (had enough combat xp to get 3 of the 4th column boxes). If they had stacked the defense, I'd have preferred sword just for the HAM targetting. Kinda stuck going any further up TK at the moment as I want to play around with the CH and BE changes before I start dropping CH though.
