Thread: no rifle xp for big mobs?
No direct damage=No XP.. at least where the 20k ham mobs are concerened.
Bleeds and wounds still work I believe. Bleeds makes sense, but wounds I believe is just an oversight. Beyond that, I can't confirm or deny but that's pretty bizarre. I know that as Elder's HAM reduces, their resistances to different damage types reduces, but that's not really the case there. Hehe, I always using a sword on the 100% resist ones and have neverreally tryied to hurt them with the T21 - I'll try it out tonight I guess.

It seems that if you have a T21, even if the NS is 100% resistant, due to the AR3 you can still do damage. I have, at least, been able to do damage to NSs with 100% resist using my T21. I did very little damage, but it was still damage.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that you were fighting some NS's that were 100% resistant to riflemen damage types. Here's a quick rundown:
NS Riflemen can kill: Initiates, Outcasts, Rangers, Sentries, Rancor Tamers, Sentinals, & Elders.
100% resistant to energy, stun, acid, cold, heat: Protectors and Spell Weavers.
After that, I'm afraid I don't know what the cause may have been - stranger things have happened though. I have also noticed that you don't always get the on-screen message, "you receive XXX rifle experience", but still do receive the xp.
(Note: There is a third type we cannot damage, Stalkers. Stalkers can only be damaged by Restraint, Kinetic, and Blast, so they, too, are immune to our damage types.)
I agree with Odite here. The chances were that you were hitting one of the three types that we cannot damage. Remember, your combat log is no indication of the actual damage you did. It just shows what the raw damage is before armor and resists are taken into account. If you hit a Protector, Stalker, or Spellweaver as a Rifleman, all of that damage is resisted, so youmay see xxx damage in your combat log, but there will be no actual damage floating above your target's head for your shots.
And as you said, you were with a Swordsman; therefore, the fact that the mind bar was what was moving is no indication that you were doing any damage at all. Swordsmen can attack mind as well. Also, the ones that we cannot damage happen to be able to be damage by Blast and Kinetic, the two damage types a Swordsman can do.
The only other explanation I can think of is that your weapon has decayed to 0. When that happens, you will not do any damage at all, even to targets we can hurt.
