I've been developing a few hunting (PvE only, guys. Sorry.) tactics to get around any upcoming Combat Balance nerf. Assuming (heh) that we'll have roughly the same damage output when we're set up and our AoE attacks aren't nerfed all to heck, two Riflemen should be quite effective hunting together. See the diagram below;

Rifleman1 --------30 meters-------- MOB Lair ----------30 meters--------Rifleman2

Two riflemen bracket the MOB lair so that they're on opposite sides 30 meters away from the lair. They both target the lair with an AoE attack. Any MOB that aggros either rifleman will be in the cone of effect of the rifle attack. If you only have Rifleman as your elite combat class, this is an extremely efficient configuration to take down lairs. Two Master Rifleman doing this currently will burn through lairs like nothing else.

Add in a BE pet to guard my ass and sometimes draw away aggro and you have my nightly hunting sessions. We have learned being at a 30* angle from each other and using full range is better, actually. It gives the pet-guards a chance to intercept incomming and time for both to pop-up and run away out of range a tad to limit the number of aggros. You are still in both cones for 45m till one gets on top of the aggroed rifleman. We have also found, if we time it right, the MoB gets confused as to which rifleman to focus on, giving you a better chance for the pet-guards to intercept.

Actually, when i used to have to group hunt (of course only with another rifleman) used to set it up like a triangle.

...... Lair ......

Me ........... Buddy

Me being 55 meters from Lair, and 55 meters from Buddy, Buddy is also 55 meters away from lair. Using this you can cover each other and attack lair at optimal ranges.

one of my old guildmates and I used a version of this strategy to hunt Krayt dragons as Master Rifle/Master Docs.

with limited defenses, no mitigation, etc, we couldn't tank a dragon for very long. Using a version of this (granted, it being a fluid situation, as the dragons sometimes switch to "hi speed" mode and charge) we were able to hunt them very effectively.
