I finally reached Master Rifleman this past weekend - whoo!

I love the profession, and am taken aback at how much better it is at Master than it is at the mid-level range. My main playstyle is PvE. I virtually never PvP, as it doesn't interest me all that much. Once I finish my build, I just want to explore the SWG universe a bit more: do some quests, try to pick up some loot, etc. At any rate, I am trying to decide between two complementary skill sets:

1)Simply going for Master TKA. This seems to be very popular. It's kind of boring to see so many TKAs running around, and it is always appealing to be a little different, but TKA seems to offer quite a bit. While I have never played the profession, Unarmed I-IV was a very uninteresting levelling experience, and unless it gets infinitely better early on, I don't know how enjoyable that prof will be. OTOH, once I do finish it off, it will allow me to tank in PvE quite a bit better.

2)Commando isn't the most effective profession in the world, but it does have a couple of appealing weapons: the flamethrower and launcher pistol. I was considering going 0040 Commando, and then 0344 Pistoleer for the accuracy and speed mods in addition to the +40 melee defense( I always keep novice medic for rudimentary healing skills). The downside with this build is that I wouldn't be able to tank as well, and Rifles at close range seem to be every bit as effective as the commando weapons - so there really would not be a need for the Commando weapons at all, other than they are visually appealing.

So basically I have a conundrum on my hands. My head tells me hat #1 is the way to go, while can't silence the little boy inside me that is screaming about ow nifty the Commando's weapons are. Any opinions?

You could try them both out and see how you like them

Rifle/TKM has always been a pretty popular build. I used to be it awhile ago and it was fun. TKA gets exponentially better once you hit novice tka, once you hit novice the levelling gets so much easier. Getting TKM will allow you to tank better against bigger mobs. This combo, of the two, will also be much better in pvp.

I've never been a commando so I can't really give any advice on that. I always thought some of the weapons looked cool as well. The only thing I can say is getting master marksman for commando will help your rifleman because of the extra +5 in speed.

If you are PVE only you might also want to consider CH. I know CH's have gone the way of the dodo, but believe it or not Rifle/CH used to be very popular (This was my first profession combo). You don't have to worry about tanking because your pets do the tanking for you. You also don't have to worry so much about burning through armor since your strategy should be not to get hit. You can also make a living selling hides and creature resources you collect.

Like I said first though, you can try them both out and see which one you enjoy the most. Levelling doesn't take all that long and the beauty of the system is you can switch professions whenever you want.

TKA is a great profession. I've been master now for a couple months and it offers allot. Been pure melee for 2-3 months now and it is getting old so started working on rifleman this week. I was Master Rifleman/Fencer during the holo grind and enjoyed it allot.

For PVE it just doesn't get any better than TKA, swordsman have more damage but not near the defenses or toughness that we have. Start off with /flushingshot2 or SS2 depending on speed mods and switch to TKA and intimmidate the mob when he comes running. Let go with /unarmedhit3 and/or stick a stun and it is all over with.

actually you left out probably the most popular PVE build for rifleman - rifle/swordsman which gives you the same pool hits as rifle + ap 2 melee weapons and blast capability just like commandos.

rifle/tkm means you can lean into the PvP at anytime you want and take a swim - so it is a good choice

Rifle/Commando - I have an affectionate point in my heart for this as I did this for about 4 months... it is a blast (literally!) the flame thrower DOT's area amazing and blast pistol is fun. Unfortunately speed is slow, accuracy sucks and you get no specials for the launcher pistol other then ones you pick up in marksmen and in pistolleer, smuggler or BH...

Thanks for the reply! Currently I am a Master Marksman, Master Rifleman, 0010 Commando, 0101 Pistoleer, 4340 Medic, and obviously 4000 Brawler. So, I am near completion of that Commando build, should I pursue it. The TKA build just gnaws at the back of my mind though.

Interesting thoughts on the CH build. The does sound effective, but doesn't seem very Star Warsy to me, soI will probably not pursue that. Again, thanks for your thoughts!

CH is a great combo with rifleman, they tank with there massive HAM and you can have multiply creature out at once that will all tank, my friend used this to great effectiveness, I'd love to take this up but imto attached to doctor and rifleman to drop either.

i see lots of Swordman/Rifleman both attack same pool, and swordman has nice damage with his mind attack.

your also forget to try CM dont think you can master but im not sure though u can get the skill to use most of the strong poisons.
