Thread: Thursday NPC patch
I wouldn't count on that issue being fixed.

well folks thursday will bring back specials and weapon use for NPC this means force users like the sisters will once again use their powers. other NPC will use weapons appropriate to the situation. looks like cover may actually have a use.
i just hope it doesnt bring back ye olde npc using strafe2 with a CDEF pistol bug.
strafe2 is apparently STILL an NPC pistol special.
we've already seen it on TC with the current code.

Great, I wonder if this will have any effect on the immense HAM costs some NPC's have. I never understood how more life, high resists, and armor=tougher target when toughening them up via defensive and offensive punches would work better on top of giving different attack styles preference for certain mobs.
i agree. its not rocket science to know by now after 8ish years of MMO combat that PVP is all macro key presses. do x attack then y then z etc repeat certain attacks as needed till the routine sticks.
certain types of npc could have three or four attack routines with various levels of effectiveness duplicating exactly what players do. since PVP is not based on individual player skill but instead based off of dice rolls and artificial skill levelsit wouldnt be that hard for a NPC to mimic effectively what a player does in combat.
for example:
when x amount of life is gone heal self.
when attacking andenemy has no state effects apply special attack until successful.
if desired special state effect is active on target do X attack routine target mind pool.
other than moving around that is all players do in combat with each other in PVP boiled down to the essentials.
we took out Min and the bunch on TC before the server went wonky...
they're using some pretty inventive specials. Min's powerhammer apparently allows her to use Jedi LS specials. after one popped off, she managed to throw about 4000 base damage to everything in 30 meters. mitigation, armor, and such made this survivable, but not fun to see a group take that kind of hit across all members.
as far as the elders? same sort of tricks as Min. no surprise there.
the spell weavers had some flashy lightning and such, but we didn't really leave them standing around to watch the fireworks.
if you're used to soloing this level of content: the risk is higher. the rewards are the same. it's still possible, but the question will become: is it worth it? unless you're hard up for heavy duty leather... maybe not.
specials SEEM to be delaying NPC attacks (ie autoattacks at speed 2, specials at speed 2 x delay). I'd need to go out buffed and /peaced more to see if they're using accurate delays.
specials reduce NPC HAM... but on most targets, you won't see a thing. with the HAM revamp, this will probably be relegated to anecdotal testing only, but right now they seem to be affected by special move costs.
however... NPC's are still cheating. they're using weapon-specific skills that do not reflect the weapons they are equipping. I have yet to see an appropriate delay of autoattack OR specials that would reflect the weapon equipped. the weapons that NPC's use are cooked to MUCH higher stats than are allowed in crafting (yes, an AP3 CDEF rifle was looted on TC, and I've seen DWB goons using SR Combat Pistols with something like 500-1000 base damage). when you consider that ALL looted T21's are speed 11, 105-350 dmg... this should be somehow reflected in the speeds and damages of NPC's that choose to use these weapons. I haven't seen a weapon-switch delay on NPC's, but even if it's there, it's probably transparent from the player's end. NPC's can still attack while swimming, as well as change postures.
they're still cheating, and they've got better armor, weapons, resists, and HAM.
that doesn't mean we're not killing them. the problem I'm seeing is that the system allows for too many basic NPC behaviors that would get players banned.
once TC is back up, I'll try to test some more NPC combat... but be warned: it's a different game when they can shoot back.
