Thread: shooting while prone, broken?

I've been testing this with other riflemen, and it does seem broken.
We accounted for the line of sight issue (by using first person prespective, then even shooting downhill). Our results suggested that successfully auto-firing (by issuing the attack command) was inconsistent. We also found that auto-fire would sometimes kick in after doing one or two specials, but this again was inconsistent. However, any special would work every time when prone. All from the same position inroughly the same direction.
Anyone else seen this?

Yay! Daveg I was just about to post this exact same issue! I have had similar findings. I have started to /bug it daily as its starting to really annoy me.
I can't auto-attack while prone, the music starts up and combat mode begins, but my gun does not fire. If I kneel or stand it will auto-fire successfully. If I fire a special while prone it does work, but then if I do not queue up any more specials my rifle just stops shooting.
I think this issue actually started around the same time JTL was released. At first I thought it was just lag related but now it seems to happen to me all the time.
I suspect its been overlooked so far as MOST seem to just spam specials nowadays.....

It gets really anoying, when your killing peko pekos for there meat, and so don't bother getting buffed....... I have my stats set up so I HAVE to get buffed to shoot more than 6 specials in a row. (I PvP almost constantly, that's why I have the mind stats migrated so)
It is a known issue and is in the top 5 I believe..... still the more atten this gets the better!

Glad to hear it's not just me
Are you doing like me, Jasco, preparing for how things will be after the combat-change? (not calling it an upgrade until I try it! lol).

Yeh, I've gone back to my Ranger roots and ditched the armour (never buffed much anyway). Just me and a crate of brandy now, oh and a couple of traps I cobbled together. But the prone issue means I have to kneel more often than not, which lessens my concealment chance somewhat!

Yep that's the really ironic thing, using autofire and relying on our concealment is supposed to be in the spirit of what's coming up with the HAM system changes. (I hunt similarly, no armour or doc buffs).
So, they had better fix this before the HAM/combat changes arrive or it will make everything very silly!

Unfortunately this has been around since 10/22/2004
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=rifleman&message.id=80524#M80524
At the time I had a CSR come on and verify the problem and write it up - been quiet ever since.
Being a Smuggler/Rifleman I'm a little fatalistic with these things, but I wouldn't expect to see this resolved until after the CU.
Cheers

HEY! That is my thread. YAY! Thank you for saving me the trouble of having to hunt around for it. ^ ^
I also have some pistol skills, and it affects my pistol as well.

I think the /bug reports are stored in the very full "file 13" until reviewed at a later date. At least thats how it feels.

LOL Being relatively new to the Rifleman profession, I thought that the lack of an auto-attack in the prone position was normal!
Oh, and on a completely different topic, how do you guys get the reply to text ("so-and-so wrote..." text) to show up instead of having to copy/paste it into your own post? I click 'reply' on the post i want toreply to but it still just displays only the text i wrote...

Right next to the smiley face icon in the toolbar there is a 'quote box' (looks like the balloons used in comics when someone is talking). Just click that and it will quote the post you are replying to.
