i'm pretty new, so i'd really appreciate it if people could give me a list of terms and definitions, for example: what is nerfed? what is dev?(could be developement) if any of my questions are painfully stupid, just tell me please

This isn't really the rightboard to be posting in, but I'll clear up dev and nerf for you. Dev means Developer, the people who make and maintain the game. And nerf is when the devs make things less effective, lowering the damage a weapon does for example.

as a side note-- people throw around the term "nerf" like curse words on a Naval vessel.

frequently, any bug fixes and content changes are considered "nerfs" by a subgroup of players somewhere.

i'll throw in a bunch of misc terms also:

MOB-- term common to many MMORPG's, like everquest. Means a creature, NPC, or other mobile target

Agro-- a mob that will come after you if you get too close, regardless of whether you shoot it first or not. Also used to denote "was attacked by...". as in, " i was agro'd by the gaping spider..."

Social-- when used to describe a MOB, indicates that if you shoot one, and others like it are around, they all come after you. Non-social MOB's can be picked off one at a time-- the others around remain oblivious to the fact you're attacking their friends.

Special-- an advanced attack or skill gained from acquiring skill boxes. For example, Headshot is a special which hits the targets mindpool only

HAM-- Health, Action, Mind. used as a generic term to indicate the "hit points" or potential damage a target can absorb before death/incapacitation, or the cost to your own health/action/mindpools associated with using a special, buff, etc

Buff-- a temporary increase in stats to beyond normal levels. this can be done with chef products (food, drink), smuggler's drugs (spices), and doctor's medical skills (enhancement packs), among other things.

there are lots of others-- don't feel stupid for asking someone what a term means if you've never heard it before. Sometimes, SWG conversations are like an alien language. My wife occassionally looks over my shoulder while i play, and she frequently asks me what something means when observing conversations.

Hi,

I recently started to drop MasterTK to try Swordsman. Not that I don't like Tk but but it's my first combat skill in the game and I wanted to try something else. I also found TK to be a massive drain on the mind pool. Also, being a Doc as a secondary profession, meditation was almost useless to me, except for mind healing obviously.

I would like to know what are the major strong points of Swords and what are the big advantages over TK. The first thing that people told me is the variety or damage that you can do with swords depending on the weapon, instead of just kinetic damage like TK. I currently have a curved sword at 280 damage, and a power hammer at 580 damage. I keep attaching speed powerups on the hammer since it's 5.3.

What is the best place to grind Swords? I was at the sennex cave all the time for TK as the sennex react well to kinetic damage but they don't seem to react as well to blast. Is the squill cave a better spot (considering i'm still novice).

Thanks

i find that the squill cave is a great place to grind. i mastered TKA there for a change of pace, and could have easily mastered it in a day if i had the time. also depends on how many people are there. if your lucky and get an empty cave, you can gather all the squills around you and pound away.

Well, I doubt that I'll be able to handle 10 squills at the same time being only novice Swordsman, specially since I don't have a lot of accuracy/speed with the powerhammer. Right now, with the power hammer, i'm more dangerous to myself than to them ;-)

I'll give it a shot tonight and seel how many I can handle.

Thanks
