Thread: Warping when going prone

I'm thinking it may be a ranger issue because I only noticed it after i picked up novice ranger and at the time I had absolutely NO rifle skills. Well I had novice marksman but no rifle boxes. It happened to me a few times before I got really annoyed with it and have just fired from standing ever since. I have since dropped ranger but as I said I just fire from standing now so I haven't noticed if it is still happening to me.

I would think that if you guys really want this fixed I know of one way that will immediately get the dev's attention and solve this problem forever.

find a pistoleer, any pistoleer, but make sure he is a pistoleer

start your run at him from about 70-80 meters out

run in go prone and fire

immediatley warp back to 70-80 meters, wherever you started from

do this over, and over, and over again

the resulting nerf calls on the pistoleer boards will make this issue top priority

I think that will work, from what I remember if i hit prone andattacked immediatelyI would get one shot off before i warped. It also used to happen to me with kneelingIF I remember correctly.

I don't look at it as exploiting, instead I would look at it as getting something fixed through a nerf. Hell they should jump all over that one, and then you could say that you got nerfed again and try to get your GOOD T-21's back

Anyway I hope that helps you guys out, good luck!!

This isnt a rifleman only issue. Though it always happens to me as a rifleman, but also as a doctor, I will run somewhere, and /sit then I will warp sometimes 2 times. and sitting means ou cant move while sitting, so its not the game calculateing if you were walking/crawling. At least no imho. and it happens at all levels of marksman, and without marksman at all.

i did not bother to read the whole thread but the best workaround is to go prone and crawl in any direction just enough to animate your character and you will not warp. i havent warped since i started using this method.

it seems the server "loses" the players position during a stance change and moving in a new stance ie.prone crawling forces the server to actually update while if you just lay prone you warp back to the last time it updated. hence standing still for a while and then going prone also works. but the fastest way is to force an update. all they would have to do is add in a (update player position) command whenever a play does a stance change. seems simple to me.

are you walking/running/burst running then going prone?? or just coming to a total stop then going prone?? i tend to come to a stop then go prone i dont just stand around i just stop pressing the move key and press the prone key then crawl a small bit.

this bug is very specific to how the system is updating your position. the coincedence is too clear. i am pretty convinced that the system thinks your standing/running/walking and then you go prone on the client and it sends the packet updating your position/stance and it doesnt match what your posture was last so it warps you back. if i wait to crawl i get warped back when i crawl or shoot or do an action. if i go prone and immediately crawl a small bit i believe it forces a posture/position update and bypasses whatever bug exists in the code.

i can reproduce it with a non-combat character on any server. it is not a rifleman specific bug. check the dev tracker the mounts are having that issue and the devs are acting like they have never heard of it before. so maybe it will get fixed now that their "pet" project (pun and a bad one yes) is experiencing it.

This weekend I surrendered all my ranger skills and Novice ranger. I still occasionally warp, but it's MUCH better now without the ranger skills. I now actually go prone again

Barb, you have a different problem than I had I guess, because crawling is how I normally make the warp happen faster rather than having to wait a few seconds for it.

I tried another experiment hoping it was related to the fact that we basically all run by default. I ran up to the place where I wanted to go prone, but just before stopping, I hit shift to start walking for a few steps. Then I went prone. I still warped, so that does not help.

I have been finding also, lately, that breaking target lock no longer seems to prevent the warping for me, either. The only somewhatsure method I have found is the other suggestion just to wait a few seconds after arriving where you want to go prone before you actually go prone; although, the time necessary seems to vary for some people. This would seem to lend credence to the suggestion that it is a client-server synchronization issue with the movement and posture change. Waiting a few seconds likely allows the server and client to come to an agreement as to your position; thus, the server would not needwarp you back to a last known good postion.

This is a known problem from what I've been hearing. It along with warping Mobs will be more than likey number one in our top 5 list we are compiling on the "sticky post". I'm assuming it at this point though.

I had two interetsting "warps" today. First one, I was 'strafing' left (90 degrees) to a foe. (Trying to get out of range of 2 others who were to the right of foe.) After getting out of range, I went prone and warped back to where I was before. (I had usally found my self warping away from my foes.)

Second event. A master commando was firing at a target, the target was just sitting there not firing back. I got up from being incapicated, fired on the target and the target started shooting at me. Ducked left to stand behind a tree. Then I got hit by blaster fire from the target THROUGH the tree. I was thendowned BACK where I started. (I discovered that the master commando wasn't getting return fire when I scrolled back through the log.)

My connection is cable. My pings average about 70. fps 20+.

Need to try this : stand next to someone, run 20 meters out - go prone.

There certainly is something to be said about posture changes. They ignore the 'que' of actions - which is good since the que cannot be aborted. However, perhaps they shouldn't reverse events as observed by the client. Has anyone witnessed others warping?

that idea bout prokoving pistoleers - BAD - they might not gripe about it - heck they can run up to 60 meters and do some nasty attack and go prone to teleport away too.

Would you care to test out a 400 year old sword to see if it's decayed to condition 0? All the prior testers have no comment. Perhaps a gun which was used in WW I and still fires with high accuracy upto 1km?

If that doesn't get you, then start reading current military specifications for combat equipment.
