i have 3 templates ive messed around with, they all have the same core..

Master Rifle / Master TK / Fencer 0440 / Marksman 4004 - leaves 4 pnts very decent def with posture down attack

Master Rifle / Master TK / Fencer 0400 / Medic 0040 - leaves 3 pnts to play with .. again decent def , with Stim E healing, lose the posture attack though.

Master Rifle / Master TK / Fencer 0442/ Marksman 4003 - uses all skills, extra equilibrium, no posture down

all 3 i have found viable and once master and capped exp its very easy to interchange these 3

One thing that is uncertain right now in pvp (at least on Bloodfin) is how disease/poison resist buffs (we only have Bs now) are affecting pvp on a large scale. On Bloodfin, most of our encounters are a minimum of 10 vs. 10 and often as large as 50 vs. 50. With these kind of #s, a rifleman (or anyone) without doc is a huge liability. If you can't cure a big ticking poison, fire or disease then you are nothing but a meatshield and will hit the pavement hard. On Bloodfin it isn't uncommon to have to cure poisons that tick for 600-1000+ (and with prenerf havala poisons that means an instant tick). The bottom line is, on Bloodfin a pvp'r without doc has a life expectancy of about 15 seconds.

Let's assume that what I'm saying is true on Bloodfin (it is...as I'm in the largest imperial pvp guild on Bloodfin and a player without doc in their template (save jedi and cm/rifle) are pretty much strongly encouraged to retemplate in order to join). Given this, we have seen a recent shift away from master rifle, doc 4/4/4/0 doc (or 4/0/4 doc), cm 0/0/0/3 (or 4/0/0/3 or 0/4/0/3 mind healer) due to the CM nerf and the new poison/disease resist packs, therebye making the mini-CM non-effective (though the mind healer template is still a great support template). While supression fire 1 and terrain negotation skills are still great 1 v 1 pvp skills, I personally cannot justify keeping these skills for small to large encounter based pvp. In the 4+ mo. I played a mini-CM rifleman 99% of my deaths were due to dizzy/lunge/kd. To counter this problem I have recently retemplated to:

* Master Rifle

* Doctor 4/3/4 (I like to be able to buff personally, and in group pvp some people have to be able to buff. Of course, some rifleman can get away with 4/0/4 and like I said, the effects of resistance buffs on large scale pvp is unclear, but it is conceivable if poisons and diseases rarely stick you might be able to get away with as low as 0/0/1/0 doc in order to use fire blankets. We'll see.)

* Pistoleer 0/0/4/0 - With this line the rifleman gets huge defenses vs. states, dizzy, posture down and knockdown. I can get my defense vs. dizzy to around 100 with +25 attachment and ithorian mist making me extremely hard to get dizzy/kd even in large fights.

Another route of course is picking up 3/0/0/0 in fencer which maxes your defense and gives you warcry/intimidate but you are still easy to dizzy/kd because melee/ranged defense don't protect you vs. states. It is MHO that in large scale pvp, in order to be effective you need to be alive. If you are on your back flailing like a fish then you are not much of a factor.

BTW, block works. Get maxed on block and take some vayerbok and watch how much more you block. It's no dodge (as block is a reduction in damage like synthsteak, not an evade).

Anyways, this is the Bloodfin pvp take on Rifleman. Have doctor or die, its that simple.
