I've noticed that sometimes I'll be as far away as 70m, but I'll see a targeting number in my hud after selecting a mob. However, I have not been able to shoot until I get to that 64/65m threshold.

I am curious: Is 64m the max range for any ranged weapon, period? Just seems a little silly to have a Rifleman class, with powerful sniping rifles like the E11 and T21, and not allow shots from longer range than 64meters. I guess I can understand it from a gameplay balance perspective, but really, it doesn't make much sense from a "realisim" (I realize Star wars is a fictitious universe, thus the quotes) perspective.

I think you might be able to shoot larger mobs from farther away....I can only shoota Kima from 64m or closer but i can hit a Tortur bull from as far as 75m away and still have positives to attack it. However, I have noticed I can only shoot the Tortur bull from 75m when it is broadside to me and if it turns i get a "Target out of range" message.

The only time I have been able to extend my range was wehn I would have an enhancement on the rifle that had a range bonus. Even then, the furthest I could fire from was 65m.

I have shot from further than 64m at Kimogilas on Lok .

I have been targeted by MOBs from further away than 64m on Lok .

It's easy to duplicate both . Try this .... go toa neutral mob at 64m and fire a Mindshot . Now run away to 75 or 80m . Guess what ? Once two tics of the DOT go off the MOB searches for you , FINDS you and aggros and charges .

This 64m max range stuff is a sad excuse that is keeping our skill handcuffed .

Good hunting all

Mob detect range is not 64m. I've been detected at anything under 128 for DoT damage values. Probably higher, but I haven't tested. I've also shot and received fire at 70m and more for some reason. There is no maximum mob detect range at 64m. That is complete crap. That would mean that I could fire while prone, crawl out to 65m, and the mob would never find me. I believe max range is 128, and they wanted to provide a buffer so I wouldn't be able to do what I just described. Aggro ranges go from 5m to 64, and possibly higher, that I have seen.

In other words, the game is not limiting a longer range, and you could change it so the rifle could fire from farther away.

Folks, there's a far simpler method to check this. Take a note of how many animals will stalk you from over 100m and follow your movements, it's very common amoung things like veermok and tuskcats. That means they are detecting you from far outsdie 64m, it's not aggroing in the normal sense but they will attack once they get closer.

One note.

If the problem is that the devs wrote the game so when you attack a creature, it has to do some sort of search algorithm to find you, that's one hell of a serious problem.

Have you noticed that when you attack a creature, you become engaged? That information is available in the game and THAT is most likely how the creature starts attacking you. The range thing must be an arbitrary value that can be slid around, or else the game was written wrong.

Of course this has different issues with PVP. If they can't see your shots or your avatar then they can't find you.

It's pretty easy to shoot from outside the 64m range, actually. To do this, it's easiest to have an Attack hotkey rather than double clicking on the target. Simply target whatever it is you want to shoot at and start running away from them. Try to time it so that just as you hit 64m, you hit Attack, but keep running. By the time you start firing the shots, you will be close to 70m, and sometimes it will let you keep firing from that distance.

So it's definately possible for them to allow us to shoot from further out.
