I don't really understand it either. Maybe it is a way for us to actually have -defense modifiers but it would take a lot of math to figure out so people just assume we aren't in the red and won't be up in arms about how horrible we have it? Honestly I feel it would just be easier to give us 0 or whatever the melee defense equivalent would be and explain to us that it is the counter to our high DPS and speed and there you go. Lots of problems solved with a simple post and hotfix. Then I'm not a developer and am not privy to their inner thoughts.

Block is suppose to reduce 50% of the damage you take when it's succesful. Dodge and counterattack completely affords all damage when it works. Pistoleers have +105 dodge and Carbineers have +105 counterattack, we however have +80 block. I think it's pretty fair given our higher range defense, sorry melee defense now doesnt mean anything anymore with the melee to range hit bonus. I really want to see block fixed.

Here is my reasoning on the issue of our melee defense and our to hit penalty. We don't know how the to hit penalty really works. It could be a straight -X amount of melee defense or it could be a % reduction. If we didn't have the defense and the penalty, and instead had 0 melee defense, people could stack professions on top of rifleman like fencer and TK and still come up with some really good melee defenses, negating one of the rifle negatives. With the to hit penalty, lets say its a % decrease, you can get rifle, TK, and fencer melee defenses and stack them, and you will be better off than a pure rifleman, but the final melee defense bonus you get may, and probably is less, than if you had 0 melee defense from rifle and the melee defenses from fencer and TK. This way you still get a bonus over non stacker riflemen, but you still have the penalty, even after stacking.

What the hell is block anyway?
We have ranged defense... and Melee defense...
What does block do? ... you don't take full damage? ... what you put your arm up or something?..
