Slower computers or connection will have more problems because of terain updates slightly mving our position to the sever, interupting our specials.
I have a good machine, and connection, but if I try to turn any of the settings up on graphics and terrain, I will fail over and over sometimes up to 10 times, with consistancy.
Turn everything down, settle into place for 2 or 3 seconds if I've been in the area for a while, the specials work every time. If I bike in, plop down, and try to use a warmup, it will fail EVERY SINGLE TIME, unitl I wait 2 or 3 seconds (about the time to let even a failed cover to fully recycle), I can reapply cover, snipershot, whatever I want without fail.
Turn every setting down, do everything you can to minimize network lag, and things should work much better. If I leave my computer at regular settings, wait a couple of seconds at my position and posture, the warmups will work. If you get a failure, wait for the warmup bar to go completely away before retrying, by that time enough time has passed for me atleast, to get 100% success.
You mileage will vary, since it seem to be tied to your network performance/framerate performance. If you can just barely run SWG, I imagine you will continue to have problems.
It's great to posta work-around, but we simply should not have to resolve these problems like this. What should happen:
1) Dev communication (either direct or through our Correspondant)
2) Updated code to fix glaring issues with specials that should never have seen a live server.
3) Player Feedback regarding the progress of those fixes
4) Devs actually consider this feedback and take action.
5) Repeat.
I'm not flaming you - I applaud that you are staying positive. And I'm not going to go off on a rant, but there is simply no excuse for this game being in the state it is currently in with the amount of tester feedback and player feedback provided over the last two years and directly concerning this CU.
I just purchased an expensive new machine pre-CU in anticipation of enjoying SWG again upon return. I should not have to scale my graphics back to my previous system in order to have a profession that works as advertised.
please read bug thread - I have posted that the devs said a fix was coming a day or two ago.
But basically I have no idea when - fixes can take between 1 and 5 days to hit live.
They are aware of the situation (and in fact at this moment I am making them aware again ) and the fixes should be inbound (I hope)

I'm a rifleman /tkm and have the problems with all the warmups too including COB.
Also they seem to fail more on uneven ground, hills, slopes etc. this is all happening while setting up for combat.
Finding true flat surfaces isn't always easy but yesterday I just kept failing so much on dant that I ran over to someones house and used their pourch to get my TK powerboost to stick then go under cover and crawl back to my main position only to have cover removed after my first conceal shot.
Later last night huntingwhere I could get cover to stick, I never got cover to stay on more then 3 conceal shots.
THanks for reminding me. I did have this problem with COB also. Im not TKM now so I didnt think about it.
Also graphics are now on default and it doesnt change. Ive sat in the same area for a hour and it makes it no easier.
Last straw. Now I got out my old Rifleman gear, with my SEA'd armor and my old Lasers and T21. THought id head out hunting.
Oh look there's a rebel Jedi. So here I am, trying to be very sneaky, as its the only chance i have agaisnt him. Except /cover wont work. Im on perfectly flat ground. So eventually im discovered crawling around trying to find a spot to cover.
Ive pretty much given up at this stage on hitting my target.
So i leave after a little chat. GO hunt some krayts. Cover works this time. Conceal and snipe wont. After 20 or so clicks I give up.
Whats the point of rifleman, if their only attacks wont work and im left using some weak attacks.
Think ill give up for now and run group missions. Until they fix it.

Well I wish I knew what I was doing last night, because I had no problems at all with cover or conceal shot. I am a MCM/4303 rifleman and was doing the last part of the Cries of Alderaan quest on Yavin 4. The base spawned in a dense, rough terrain area and I took out all eight of the guards without them ever firing a single shot. I failed going into cover a couple times, but both times I clicked on cover while I was still moving into prone position. Worked every other time.
Conceal shot worked on all eight npc's with 3 to 4 shots each and never broke cover. It didn't work my first time, but I play from a 3rd person perspective and while I had line of sight from my camera, when I moved into first person, there was a small hill in the way. I even used sniper shot to kill the last guy and it went off without a hitch (and I'm not sure, but I don't think it even broke my cover, since the guy died). So I don't know. I think it must be something we are doing wrong, and not a bug, but some explanation to WHY it wouldn't work would be nice.
Regular publish cycle.
Routine bug fixes.
Content development to the live game.
A whole expansion that adds a totally new game play style to the game, JTL.
The combat upgrade, co-developed alongside,
another expansion, RotW. Which will aloow players to live EP3 almost the time as the movie is released.
One of the single absoluelty biggest problems SWG had when it came out was content. There was nothing to do, the game was mostly dead, a barebones system. since then we've seen numberous publishes, which go far a beyond what many preceeding MMOs patches and were more like expansions. These added life to the game, and while nearly everyone of them had problem, over time things worked out, and you ended up with a more playable game. Immersion in the star wars universe is unbelievable. Few games attain this level of immersion.
All this time, there have been few changes that have went on in the background. Management changes, staff increases, these thing in themselves take time to work.
The CU was pushed early to make sure everything was in place for the new expansion, which was pushed to coincide with the movie release. Make no mistake about it, this was a huge change to the game. If the devs had decided to hold off on the release of the CU to work out all the bugs, it would have taken MUCH MUCH longer to get everything up to speed. having hundreds of thousands of player banging against their code is a much more efficient use of time compared to handfull, by comparision, of players on test and the QA staff. Which would you have, a much later release date, or a completely playable relase that wil improve much faster compared to how long it would take to improve if it had been delayed. And then, the expansion would have had to be delayed, which would have left the expansion too last to take part of the merchandizing rush from the movies. I rush that will help the games revenue, and coninciding development revenue, as well as bring in new and old players to the game.
No, they made the right decision. Unlike single player games that have to work right out the box, and rarely ever see any development past its relase except to develope an expansion, MMOs aren't constrained by the same rules. This isn't JK 2, or KOTOR, which are constrained by the CD onto which they are burned. SWG provides an ongoing story with ongoing content and ongoing development. You aren't paying to beta test a game, you are paying to play a game that is in constant development.
That development takes time manhours and resources to do. There are people that go to work every day, just like you do, but they do and do their jobs to develop a game. Besdies the objective, it is still a job. And just like you didn't have time to complete your call list, or review all those medical records, or finish the framing in the kitchen,,,the things we do at our jobs, so too do these people have limited time to complete the meriad of requests to make this a better game.
OK, so that was more than I wanted to say, but I guess I just needed to let it out.
