Thread: /Cover...The Magic Bullet Theories

This isn't the Jedi forum.

As someone above me said, I'd like to know the success rate of just going prone and immediately hitting /cover. I suspect the lack of a pause will have it failing quite a lot of the time, depending on your current Ping.

Sorry for the delay guys...this is a boring task and my game time has been limited lately due to my hectic work schedule. There was control for this experiment, that is, just going prone and taking cover. Therein lies another issue that I hoped to eventually get tested, and I have finally been able to do that. As with the Magic Bullet Theory series of tests, this experiment was conducted at the same location. 50 attempts were made on flat ground, and 50 more attempts were made on the incline. As before, my results indicated that you are more than twice as likely to take cover on flat ground versus an incline.

For this new series of tests, I made the following macro:
/prone;
/cover;

Eventually pauses were added, one tick at a time, until the delay was 5:
/prone;
/pause 1;
/cover;

Here are the results of my testing:

0 Delay
Success Rate: 13%

1 Second Delay
Success Rate: 31%

2 Second Delay
Success Rate: 34%

3 Second Delay
Success Rate: 44%

4 Second Delay
Success Rate: 52%

5 Second Delay
Success Rate: 64%

As you can plainly see, the longer the delay, the more successful taking cover became. My curiousity got the best of me, so I kept going:

6 Second Delay
Success Rate: 63%

7 Second Delay
Success Rate: 65%

8 Second Delay
Success Rate: 64%

I stopped here because not only was I totally bored out of my mind, but I figured that anything 5 seconds or more would yield the same result. If you view the results from my earlier testing, 64% is on par with the rest of the theories. I guess the only thing we've really learned here is that if you want to create a macro for taking cover, use a 5 second delay.

/applaud for the hard work and testing. Great data to share and I hope the devs take notice as they work to fixing this issue. You should get a consulting fee (maybe an in-game plaque of a mounted weapon, oops we got that already, lol)

The only thing I can say against your data, is that yesterday while doing missions I tried to first person trick.

Every time I stayed OUT of first person, I couldn't get into cover hardly at all. I had to move about, wait, move, wait and finally get into cover.

Every time I went INTO first person, it took no more than 5 consecutive tries EVERY TIME in order to gain cover.

I used cover probably 200 times or more, so it was pretty concrete data.

Psh... everyone knows it was the two bounty hunters on the grassy knoll...

Great work on this data. Hopefully the devs are able to sort out what the hiccup is and get it righted soon. /salute

Let's just admit it......Cover, Concealshot, and Snipershot are all bugged and either unuseable or nearly unuseable at the moment.

DEV's need to get off their collective duffs and fix the freakin bugs already!

Yeah, that's the whole point really. In all of my testing, there was no one method that really stood out from the rest. I've done additional testing, but the situations weren't as well documented as those above. Using these abilities shouldn't require this much fiddling around. You should be able to go prone and take cover, and it should work 100% of the time...that is unless the dynamics of breaking cover are present, such as a nearby person.

For my next series of tests, I'm going to rub some monkey blood on my monitor and drop some chicken bones in a wax circle on my desk, while I chant in pig latin. I'm also thinking that we'd have better luck if we tried to use cover on Tuesdays when it's raining in the afternoon.

they are already fixing it in the next patch so it works every time unless you move when it is setting up sopposedly http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_testing&message.id=70849&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Yeah, well, they never explained in the first place why it did not work correctly. And they did not tell us what they "fixed". So, I will believe it when I read confirmed reports of it working in game.

Dev's: Can we get the SEA mods that do not work replaced with mods that do? Also, while you're at it, make sure to update the loot table by deleting mods for SEA's that are no longer applicable. Thanks.

49/53 attempts sucess first time

you do need to wait till you stop moving from going prone

you do need to stay away from pets/vehicles/party members still

but!

it now works 99% of the time when you would expect it to!

(YEAH!!!!)

sniper shot also appears to be fixed in the same manner - once you stop moving it never failed once on me (well it did once... but that was because I was knocked over when in the warm up phase)
