Thread: Rifleman and Block
It SAYS counter-attack, but I think it actually blocks. While dodging avoids the damage entirely, blocking only reduces the damage by one-half, if I understand it correctly.
I dont know if it has change recently, but block has had 2 bugs up until last week.
First it shows as a counterattack in our combat logs, BUT it shows up as a block on other peoples combat logs.
Second, from pikemen tests, it was showing that block is not working at all. It says it blocks a shot, but the damage is still occuring. (Several people were saying that it was also not working on NPC's who block. The NPC would block, but the NPC would still take the damage) (Both Counterattack and dodge are currently working, allowing no damage at all to occur when sucessful.)
The fencer (or was it the pistoleer) corespondant was saying the formula for dodge/block/counterattack is similar to the "to hit" formula, but that it uses block in the place of melee/ranged defense. (ie. 100 ranged defense = ~100 block). He was also saying the blocking formula occurs as a second chance after the melee/ranged defense fails. Also so far, no one has been able to give a test-backed guess for the CoB formula, although the pistoleer corespondant is trying to get more info from the devs about all defenses. Hope he gets the info.

Actually what they are trying to say imo is that you are 'Countering' the attack, a typo on their part?
I counter(block) about 3/4 of all misses that i get since the patch, or about 2-3 counters for every miss.
If im still taking damage from these hits it dosent seem to tell me but I guess i could look at it harder.
Note my melee defense is 121 so for me to counter so many attacks with 80 block, I have to believe that there is no
"to hit" bonus against blocks(counters) for melee.
Note that I normally dont melee with a rifle in my hand since im TKM Fencer also, I purposely checked to see what kind of hits the mobs were doing, and what my misses looked like with 121 melee defense (and 80 block). after the patch.
It appeared to me that i was hit twice as often as when holding no weapon. (just a rough estimate), despite the fact that I gotalot ofcounter's, I didnt get missed alot.
Note tho that I HAVE seen rare(?) attacks that showed my armor preventing damage(halfish?) with no accompanying damage to me.

Yes but I had to warn people.
Block does work.
However, by working, it only stops half of the damage and all states still stick.
Why is it that Rifleman have the 3rd highest melee/range defenses?
