The oringal poster did include a counter. It's the alertness skill that we have that has no use currently. Of course as others stated it would take a rifleman to counter a rifleman.

Idea isn't to bad I think. Though I wouldn't use the term "foxhole". That is a prepared defensive position (symantics I know). It should be a "blind" or a "hide".

But I'm not sure how well it would work. I take the ranger made "hide" and go off to PvP. I'm visible until I place it. So they'll know something is up when I disappear off their radar. Plus they'll know where I am if they paid attention to where I disappeared. In a large battle it would have more use as people are more likely to not paying as much attention.

But what happens if I'm going to place my "hide". I have to be fairly close to my target for this to work so I can shoot him (lets say 60m). A CH sees me on the way and send his pet with towards me with "a". I then place the blind before the critter gets to me. Can it still attack me since I'm now invisible? The CH can send the pet to attack from more than 64m so this is entirely possible. The CH had me targeted to send the pet do I now disappear from his targeting too?

In theory. Love the idea. The particulars would need to be (and would be) ironed out, but I love the concept.

I do believe that the idea of hiding ppl from the radar has been brought up before and responded to with a "never going to happen" type response.

This same exact idea has been debated on both the Ranger and Squad Leader forums as well. I think either of those professions would get this sort of skill before Rifleman. If Riflemen were to get this skill, then Pistoleers and Carbineers would need to receive similar skills.

You should take a look at both those forums to get a better idea of the problems it could create for other professions.

Its a nice idea, I just dont believe Riflemen will get anything like this. That is not to say the the tree does not need some work. From what I hear, more weapons and special shots are going to be added in the next few months.

Technically speaking it would be more of a ghillie suit that master rifleman should get. Using /takecover and the sneak we could crawl aroundwithout breaking cover nor losing the suit. It would seem as a slight imbalance but really the combat classes shouldn't be balanced. If all were completely balanced that what would be the purpose of picking on class over another?

Great idea Snoopacca.

If not foxholes, then ghile suits or camo netting should be availible for riflemen. Currently the concealement line is pretty much useless - riflemen have no way of actually concealing themselves. If foxholes / camoflauge was implemented, it would have to be at the top of the concealment line.

Ideally, once concealed you couldn't be visible on the radar. There's no chance you can really snipe at other players currently because they just see you on their radar, or can just hit tab to target you. Instead, other players would have to target you by actually clicking you - this would mean they either have to go looking for you, or run for cover.

To try and balacne this out, you'd have to be immobile when camoflagued. It would have to take a fair amount of time to set yourself up. It would have to take a few seconds to get up out of the concealed position. Rangers should be able to detect you without actually targetting you.

I love this idea and I support it totally, I think it should be something like this when you set it up

/Takecover (wich any combat profession will be able to use if they got that skillbox)

*the user is immobilised and thats where the riflemans sneak skill comes in handy*

/conceal (from this moment you are invisible to radar)

now you only get to move say like 10 meters per 30 seconds - if you do more ....the Hidden* state is removed and you pop back on radar.

a squadleader could setup carbineers to supress the enemy and get them to run away, to the location where possibly 3 hidden ranged players are awaiting their targets.

Theres no real effectiveway to ambush someone, expect for rushing in with a fiery force from multiple sides...wich in a war sometimes is fatal

I think it is a good idea. Apparently you people don't know what a sniper is. I'm a rifleman and I play like a sniper. I don't go running in guns blazing. In real life what do people with rifles do? Hide and wait. You people are quick to jump on someone about an idea. It was just something to think about. Why would a pistoleer need a hide hole? They don't snipe, hence the sniping tree in rifleman. You can flame me all you want but you need to think about what the weapon is and how it is empolyed.

I think it would be awesome.

Whats the point in being a sniper if you cant "hide" somewhat?
