Could it be that you attacked a target with a weapon that it was 100% resistant to? If so, it is possible to see combat window damage from the intial shot, but there will be no actual damage and, because bleeds take into account armor and resists now unlike at the beginning of the game, a bleed will not cause any damage against a 100% resistant target.

But be aware, that I believe I recall seeing some floaty numbers over a target I hit that was 100% resistant to the weapon I was using when I shot a bleed shot at them. There was no real damage assessed, so this was a bug, and that may also account for what you were seeing.

Saw the same thing with some NS's that I was fighting. I was using the bleed attack to pull them. It showed a tick of 250 and it did appear that their Mind did drop from the bleed though they showed 100% resist to the damage type.

Could be a bug. But it was rather odd.

It appears that bleeds bypass resistance. When hunting with my guild, we attacked a NS that I was useless against (100% resist to everything we have) so I fired off a DOT. I'm a master rifleman and the people I was fighting with were not mastersso we facedthe challenge. Staying in the back, I was the lone man standing as the others got sent to the cloner. I noticed the NS had no bleeds on her so I fired my DOT again to put some kind of state on her (every other state I firedwhile kiting herdidn't stick) so I could go down with a fight. She caught me, I saw the cool light display (since theyhave specials again), and I was put out of my misery. Before cloning, I waited and saw two 300 ticks which dropped her mind pool which tells me that DOT's bypass resistances.

Of course, I could be wrong. However, if that is the only way I can even remotely contribute to the kill...so be it.
