Personally, I like to wait until they are prone and concealed. Then, in the midst of their false sense of security I run up on them with a paper bag full of air and..... POW!!!
You had me on the floor laughing at that one.
I haven't noticed the /PaperBagScarespecial in any of the professions yet (or a +10 Defense Against Paper Bag SEA).

Well hey, I might as well ask this. But what is "root"? I have noticed this in a few posts. Can anyone explain what this is?
Thanks!

Its an attack that doesnt actually come from the rifleman profession, but from another elite (pistoleer has it, BH has a form of it). What it does is effectively stops the movement of whatever it hits, hence "rooting" it.

Bounty Hunter doesn't have any roots at all. The closest thing to a root BH has is Underhand Shot which is nothing more than a Knockdown.

As mentioned, rooted means the target can't move because it's been rooted in place (rooted as in "grown roots like a tree"). When something or someone gets rooted you'll see a "+Rooted+" over their head and then "-Rooted-" once the effect wears off. There might be more, but the 2 specials I know of that do this are pistoleers Stopping Shot and smugglers Concussion Shot.
As a smuggler/rifleman I can solo creatures that don't baf (short for "bring a friend") by keeping them rooted at 60m+ while hitting them head shot, etc. That works for level 81's, but is a bit harder with higher levels because their health regen is higher than my damage rate. I prefer this method because I hate kiting. This isn't a good way to gain xp though because it's too slow AND you don't even get as much per kill. Grouping is the only way to go for maximum xp gain.
