Thread: Riflemen Are Snipers: How About Giving Us Skills That Will Allow Us To Actually Snipe?

I remember back in beta when in Anchorhead... an imperial camre to the hill above it and sniped a few rebels. It was awesome, even though it was terrible becasue imperials are dirty... from that day I wanted to be a sniper. Than the nerfing started. Now tha I AM a sniper... what doI get? NOTHING! There was nothing "Unfair" that imp did. He leveled up to sinper and used his skill on someone of the opposite faction. So why did we get nerfed when we coudl be doing that? Just proof we USED to be good.

Like I said up there, people are going to think whatever they want. If a person is a rifleman, but consider themselves a freaking shoe salesman, more power to ya! It's your game, think and play what you want. In your case, fine you are a sniper. In my case, I lay waste to hordes of enemies in my way by spraying their bodies with hot AOE blaster fire. I am a soldier.


All things considered, I don't even think the devs know what we are "supposed" to be.

Snipers use sniper rifles, so rifleman can be a sniper, and since we have sniper as a branch we can say we are snipers. I like the hidden idea too. My idea for it would make it so that once you conceal yourself you go off everyones radar from 70+-100+ meters out, which ever distance is more feasible. Others within the range will still see you and your dot, but once you exist the 70+-100+ radius the concealed person "despawns". Shooting would uncovers yourself, and conceal shot would not uncover you, but if you shoot a second time with conceal, or any other shot you would become uncovered. This coudl also work if conceal shot was turned into an ability like aim. The change would make a rifleman more of a sniper, and more of an ambush combatant.

I could not agree more with the issue regarding sniping - why even have a sniping tree and the title "sniper" if there is no possible way you can snipe.


A large part of this is the rediculously low range of 64m (the range a pistol can fire from as well). If, as I am told, this is the maximum allowed by the game engine (and if so why? - a game with guns and a maximum possible range of 64mseems flawed from the outset)then to give us the ability to snipe the range on pistols / carbines etc must be reduced.


I think a large part of the problems endured by us rifleman is down to the fact we have skills that would be useful over range but that range is not an option available to us. How many shots can you get off with the average T21 before you are run down?

IM sorry but mobing off the radar range is over 124m thats a LONG way to crawl that isnt an option. Plus how do you enforce that your out of any possible targets radar range? IM sorry but that idea of sniping justdoesnt work.

To make cover fire useful in pvp how about making it so the person has to manually target us with their mouse icon, instead of simply tabbing onto us. I mean if they can still see us they can simply click on us, but make it so they can't simply tab to lock on.

BTW our Hunter line revolves around sniping, the conseal part.... Sniping evolves around accuracy. Counter sniping well in theory evolves around sniping, best way to stop a sniper is with a sniper... thats what they say...


Thats 3 of our 4 trees conserning sniping... Well you can argue counter sniping so lets compramise2.5 of our 4 tress are sniping relatedLOL



Plus rifles will give up on many other issues they are figting if we get this...

yeah thats an old post of mine i dont know what happened to my other post.


Basically a new Sneak (we will call it Creep)could be implemented thats faster then Crawl/walk but Slower then Run.


You would be Stealth From 55m+ this is were the limitations come in. Basically a Sniper would have to know where his target would be ... it really wouldn't be viable to Trek across Corellia inCreep ... unless you have a lot of time.


But say you know that theres a Reb/Imp base near you can get within 250m of it and Creep the rest of the way.
