I never used overcharge shot after I found out it does damage to my gun. If you want to help your group kill it faster than use strafe1 or one of the other lower level random pool shot. If you just want xp, then go for the head shot. Increases your overall damage to the target giving you a larger slice of the XP pie.

If you REALLY want to get tons of xp fast in a group AND help the group at the same time, get flushing or flurry 2 and blast away with those. Hits random pools on multiple mobs, but can get your ass handed to you if you're not careful. Gotta make sure all mobs are being actively engaged before switching over to these attacks. Might be a good idea to only use them every so often in conjunction with your HS on the main target, just to soak up a bit more xp.
