You should never underestimate the power of a rifleman. I was in an all rifleman hunting group and we were spinning level 82 piket lairs without taking any serious damage. about the cover shot thing. teh idea is to have several rifleman covered on all sides of the target, taking turns fireing as to make it harder to tell where the shots are coming from. my next temp will be MR/MP with either some doc or some CM. it should be very good for PvP, because the root shot will fix most targets at a point where you can hit them and they cant hit you. if you through on a ranged arm that gives +5 range you should be almost invinceble.

How on earth to you sourround a target while under cover? You move at less than one meter per second.
unless you have some nice TN tapes or Ranger....

Yeah, about that.... I cant seem to crawl fast. I put on clothes and used tapes to get +96 TN, and I had +30 rifle crawl speed. Using a rifle, I only crawled slightly faster than I did with nothing on. Whats the trick to crawl as fast as people run?

max terrain negotiation from tapes is +25
you need to be 50+ before any crawl speed kicks in (so 51+ adds to crawl speed)
you can't go as fast as people run but if you can move faster then a characters walk.

i fail to see how 8 riflemen would be more effective than 8 jedi... sure 8 rifleman can 1-shot someone if they all get off a snipershot at the same time, but 4-5 jedi can do the same thing, with advanced saber throw... and they don't have take all that time to set it up. As far as rifleman being dominant in standoff PvP... when turrents are involved, this is somewhat true, but since turrets are only a factor on PvE bases, this isn't an issue in most situations, sure you'll take out 2-3 targets coming in, but the distance *will* close, and then the jedi and melee will make up for the losses very quickly by killing the vulnerable riflemen in 2-3 hits.
There were no turrets. Only 2 largeforces with experienced rifleman. Once off thing, where the situation determined what was going on. The battle obviously developed and a massive rush from the imps broke the stand off. It wasn't a case of 8 rifleman vs 8 jedi. Obviously a wide range of multi skilled temps in *mass* pvp battles have no bearing anymore??

i understand that, all i'm saying is that the side that has more riflemen has a very small, v ery temporary advantage, and the side that has more jedi has a significant longterm advantage as soon as it chooses to close the distance. the difference of 1-2 players in a large group battle won't mean much, but if one side has say 5 riflemen and 15 jedi, and the other side has 10 riflemen and 10 jedi, the side with 15 jedi is at a distinct advantage. Yes, i'm aware there were probley classes there besides jedi and riflemen, but there presents is irrealavent to the point i'm making.

Rifleman can be a significant factor in any scale of engagement, with an appropriate scaling of the rifleman. (2 in a battle of 40 players to a side wouldn't be much of a factor) We've seen it multiple times on our server. And yes, we pulled this cloaking trick before on an attacking force. We knew they were coming to a base, we had it all set up and ready. Half took the first guy on the right, half took the first on the left. 2 opponents down instantly who also happened to be the lead person several of their group members had /follow on, then the shorter range and melee's rushed from the flanks where they'd been hiding in a house. It was a rout.

How on earth to you sourround a target while under cover? You move at less than one meter per second. What kind of jedi sits around for 20+ minutes while 8 riflemen go out of radar range in order to take cover, and slowly crawl into rifle range? And did does any jedi this dumb require the intense amount of work involved in this to kill anyway?
Simple, have it set up in advance, as sniper usually do. Theed, you can set one up near the river/bridge/clone area, set one up near the shuttle, and so on, and by setting up in those areas in advance, and calling targets, and taking them down before they know what happens, you can basically put an area under lockdown and your control. I guess your only hope is some numbskull doesn't break cover
forgot to add, I really want to try this out, any riflemen on gorath wanna hook up No'ert with a tell, and some imp faction, I'm up for it
