I do exactly the same as Sotaudi posted. I was able to get 10+ shots on a BH boss mark last night, and almost as many in on a Gorax. To try this:

1. Equip rifle (with 65+ range)

2. Start out around 70m

3. Walk to 66/67m

4. /prone

5. /conceal

6. Crawl to within range @ 65m

Then see how many conceal shots you can get off. You will find that often it is*alot* more than you would have expected.

Note: Now theBH marks won't move, but for targets that do you need to wait for them to stop, then move quickly before they start moving again.

It's nice to get a decent chunk of their HAM down before the real fighting begins (in fact against both targets mentioned above neither of them hit me b/c I kited them well after they found me). But to be honestif you have thetactics/abilities I think it's quicker to just kite them around with your headshot + , roots, KDs, and/or snares.

I actually rarely use Conceal Shot, so I haven't had a chance to play around with different approaches like this in the past. I find the whole process of taking cover and firing the slow conceal shots, and worst of all, crawling into position from several meters away, to be annoyingly slow and usually prefer to just start with a KD and then pound away with faster shots. My combat medic skills are good enough so that I don't even really kite--I just stand my ground and heal if I start getting hurt. So I completely agree with your last sentence above. I do occasionally use conceal shot though, just to do something different from my usual routine, and this afternoon I played around with Sotaudi's technique just to see what would happen. Sure enough, I was able to kill several CL 82 dune banthas without them ever aggroing on me by using the technique, but this didn't work every time. In any case, using my usual more aggressive approach, I could have killed several banthas in the space of time it took me to get positioned and fire off all those conceal shots!

I can usually get off 3 or 4 before I an discovered. But I usually go with this:

/concealshot

/concealshot

/concealshot

/concealshot

KD

/sniper

/snare

/startle

/sniper

Seems to put whatever I'm shooting at down in quick order. The high end BH marks, it will take at least half their health out.

I finally figured out why the MOB's warp.

Apparently if they get hung up on anything like a rock or stump or any other non passable terrain, as they're running towards you, they warp. Many would say that if they can get hung up on a rock they won't be in los to be able to shoot them. However, horizontal LOS seems to be determined by the center of your toon and the center of of your target. Collision detection with terrain seems to be determined by a radius around the center of a toon/target. So as a MOB runs toward you it clips a terrain feature that it determines that it can't run through thus causing the MOB to warp. This was implemented by the devs so people can't snipe at a MOB who get hung up on terrain.

So why does a toon look like it warps right away with out anything visible for him to get hung up on?
Well if you actually go up to where the toon was you'll probably find a rock that he tripped over and caused him to warp. However, the game client side didn't bother to generate it for you to see because that would be just extra information that will slow down your PC.

Try engaging MOBs in an area where you're sure there are no rocks and in an area with lots of blocking terrain and see how many times they warped.

I kinda realized this when a friend of mine Master Carbineer(CL 55) and me Master Rifle(CL 54) managed to take out a CL 83 Elite Novatrooper. We managed to ping pong him back and fouth between us and he didn't warp once to one hit kill. We were fighting in the nice flat area where the tuskens hang out just outside Mos Eisley. Try this with a Rancor on Dathomir...not a good idea.
