I switch to a D18 pistol (Republic blaster of late) and Suppression fire until it kneels. Then, get some distance, swicth to my T21 and make it pay. Warning shot does not work well against aggressive creatures.

I haven't ever touched a spray stick..why are they good for warning shot? Good speed?

I am a novice ranger, so I can throw some traps, I'll definetly check that approach out as well.

Spraystick is useful in that it allows you to continue to pickup rifle XP as opposed to some other kind of XP, and it allows you to continue to use rifle specials. However, and it is a big however, that is because it is still a rifle, so you will still get hit for the 2.5x melee damage modifier if you are holding it at melee range. So spraystick is good if you think you can finish the target off before the 2.5x modifier takes its toll on you.

I kept Pistol IV so that I could use an FWG5 and SR Combat. The former is heat damage (which we do not have)and the latter is AP1. The pistol does not help much for working mind, but only Mindshots and Headshots specifically target mind anyway. If I am using any of the other specials, I have probably been working mostly health anyway, which I can target with pistol specials.

A couple of other things. I kept Ranged Support in Marksman as well. As someone else mentioned, warning shot will create some distance for you as will SuppressionFire. The former does not always chase them off, but if you hit them enough with it, there is a chance it will. The latter not only may get them to posture down momentarily, stopping them for a moment, they will often move slower after they get up.

The advantage of these two shots as well is that they can be used with either rifle or pistol (or carbine, for that matter).

And with regard to using carbine, if you have carbine and not pistol, then obviously manyof the same ideas still apply, but if I am not mistaken, carbine causes a 1.5x melee modifier, does it not? So you are still taking extra damage. Thus, it is better to switch to pistol. You will take less damage, and the pistol's accuracy up close will be better. You cannot do this, obviously,if you do not have pistol. In that case,1.5x and carbine accuracy up close is better than 2.5x and rifle accuracy up close.

Actually I do have pistol as well.. I just liked the carbine better.. for some reason.. but statisticly speaking I should be using pistol for that.

I whip out my pistol, equip my adv ubese and and, depending on the MOB, run like hell. Typically, I nail each of the mob with healthshot2, healthshot1 then body shot the heck out of them, while I throw my pet Gronda (great tank BTW) into their face to hold them back. Typcially, it works rather well.

The speed helps because if you miss you get another try at warning shot really quick, but it also suffers less of an accuracy problem up close.

But .. the object is not to do damage but to make the creature either stop or run away. I prefer a CDEF pistol for this as its much more accurate, not bad speed and the HAM costs are almost nothing.

I find it difficult to use warning shot on a mob with a spray stick. It shoots so fast, by the time the warning sticks and it runs you'll be lucky to stop firing before it gets away from you.

As a ranger I just put on my ubese, throw a snare trap and run back to 60m and continue shooting if they get too close

Die.

Or I switch to my pistol so I can still attack but not get the major damage, hop on my mount and try to outrun them. Hopefully I haven't galloped so I have that option. I also have feigndeath (wanted to be a slicer since I was 11) which is ok but I don't like risking them aggro'ing me again after I wake up.
