Thread: Ranged/Placed Shots vs. Adv Critical/Imp Head Shots Additional Test Results

Dont tell anyone, but I save my action for when they're KD... then I hit them with all my heaviest stuff as fast and hard as I can before they get up. The additional 20% damage bonus at that moment is brutal!

I'm a speed freak. I pile on speed! Speed slice, speed powerups and a template built for speed... I have a modified speed of .86 with my "Covert Retaliation". Let me tell ya, it hurts!
Even if my underhand shot lasts only 4 seconds (which is about the fastest they can get up), I can spam them with at least 2 critical shots, 2 ranged shots, 1 head hit and possibly even a bleed attack! All at an additional 20% damage bonus! Its furiously fast and REALLY hurts!

Very nice!I've never really paid much attention to how many shots I can get in after an underhand shot KD, but I'm sure it's not that many.
I'm curious, have you noticed any difference in modified speed between 0.86 and, say, 1.00? I was under the impression that 1 second was the fastest that it's possible to fire a rifle.
It makes a HUGE difference. I feel it when my powerup runs dry... I cant stand it! Also, the fasted RECYCLE time is 1 second, but you can certainly fire faster then that if you alternate your attacks. For example...
/rangedshot; /headshot; /rangedshot; /criticalshot; /rangedshot; /headshot; /rangedshot...
Get the idea?
Your speed can only speed up each Special attack recycle time to a certain point. However, there is pause time AFTER you fire off a special before you can start the next special. I believe super speed shortens that amount of time also, so you can can fire off many different specials, if you have enough of them to cycle through before the first special is ready again.

That's very useful to know, QA, thanks for that info! Here I was trying to just get my modded speed down to 1.0 and then not bother trying for any more, but I am rethinking that based on what you said.

Just a word of warning! It will chew up your action very quickly, so you want to use ranged shot to start your attack and wait for that KD or /volleyfire when your spam will really hurt. After they get up, start using ranged shot repeatedly. You will want to save what action you have left for roots, blinds and so on. So use ranged shotonly torebuild your action for the next time you can do a KD or /volleyfire and let them have it again.

Yeah, I had actually been thinking that speed increases are going to hurt my action... but I have a SAC 83 rifle that I will always use a SAC PUP on, which brings my SAC down to 60. Hopefully that will keep my action manageable even with the extra speed, but we'll see.
If you do speed, go all the way! Having speed is all about being able to control WHEN you lay on the hurt. If you go damage and SAC, its about damage over time.
You see, speed is all about that moment when you KD the target. You get a 20% bonus during that breif time and you want to put as many hits in as you can!
You wouldnt believe how fast people incap doing this trick. Its evil!
Oh I thought I'd also add that speed and the way it effects the DPS seems to be true! The modified DPS on my rifle after powerup is over 800. Just yesterday I soloed 2 Krayt Ancients in a row. By a row I mean, the second one attacked me just before I killed the first. It was one of my finest moments. I believe you can do more damage over time because of the speed in which you can fire ranged shot over and over.
Add to that the fact that you can stockpile action for the right moment... its king over large healthpool targets and long fights.

That was my tactic while hunting Jedi using a 1.0 mod speed unpuped Scatter (double capped 948 max dmg, 65 SAC) alternating between quickdraw/critical/torso, it's sick.
Definately not true, I bet others can back me up on that.
Uthyr - have you tried alternating Adv. Crit. with Torso Shot, rather than Head Shot? Multipliers seem similar, but Torso has the bleed.
I've given up on Head Shot. Doesn't seem worth the Action cost for the damage it does.
Quantum Artist - nice story about getting all those attacks in after an Underhand Shot. I think you'll find that you're not actually getting anything like that many in before the target is counted as "up" and the damage bonus expires, though.
Unless you're talking about other players, of course. NPCs get up a lot faster than players can. :-|
