Harpoon,

Great Point. I'm not computer savvy, didn't even realize what was involved. Do you think there would be a way to make/modify a skill that, for example, made us "untabbable" as a target? I believe that might accomplish the same purpose.

BTW, 2 confirmed kills in Operation Desert Storm. Active Duty until 2001

banana are you only referring to mindshot?

strafeshot2 does 66% more damage even if it does hit random pools.

Lobo et al.

I don't want them to make Rifleman resemble real-life riflemen. That would effectively eliminate ALL other combat classes.

I don't think there are any drastic changes called for. Neither logosys nor myself is asking for one-shot kills or any of that. Range would be okay, if it had any persistent effect on the game. I think people have shown over and over again that Riflemen do not really have any accuracy over distance advantage.

I think the profession is generally fine. But I would like them to fix teleporting mobs, eliminate the penalty for people charging you and the 2.5 melee dmg penalty (but you're just silly if you're still holding your rifle at that range).

However, changes to the mind pool are in the air. Riflemen are going to need a second look I think.

And I think they should get rid of hostile PC's on the radar for EVERYONE. You should still be TAB-targeted, but that compass gets in the way of a lot of potential game depth.

How about we are only invisible while crawling? since the crawling is hella slow we be invisible to sight and radar while crawling and undercover(sneak) and once we fire then every1 can see us. Then ppl might actualy be surpised when i use surprise shot.

also High hams are ok dont have a prob with that.

the 2.5 melee is ok too only if they give us the stealth ability

RANGE MUST INCREASE!!!

Stealth should be available through the Scout/Ranger tree, and thus available to everyone.

Silverlobo isn't the most -tactful- (cough) poster on the rifleman boards, but he does generally know what he's talking about. And yes, people do bring up the 'RL sniper' reference way too often. Balance considerations aren't the only thing involved, but in any playable game they have to be the -first- consideration. Generally, stealth in MMORPGs lead to massive balancing headaches. There are a number of reasons for this, but the bottom line is if the stealth works well enough to be useful, it's generally too easy for a good player to take advantage of it.

ok so what is the rifleman class supposed to be THEN???

we are a joke....

i know real life VS swg is not on same wavelength but give us a bone here...

rifle = ranged...(where is it?)

rifle = high damage & accuracy...(needs some tweaking..)

have swg give us a explanation on what "SNIPER" means to them in our title...

I have stated over and over that you revisionists want to change our profession to match our title instead of just changing the name of the profession, and I believe you prove that with your latest post.

Okay, so lets just give us a new title. How about "The guy with the rifle who hunts elephant sized things by running away and shooting over his back" ? Fix kiting. Make the simplest fix available. Simple most of the time works. While holding a rifle, you cannot run, just walk. You cannot fire a rifle while moving. That would fix kiting forever AND would be a base for accuracy and range argumentation. To say that we should change the title because the profession is broken is probably the most idiotic thing I've heard since I last visited the Bounty Hunter board. "Oh my good, Droid Engineer is broken... well, rename it so it's no longer broken". Very funny argument.

So in SWG they decreased the range the server sends you stuff to about 256-128 meters. You don't know about anything past that range, and the server won't send you anything. Once the server loads all the players and stuff when you enter an area, it will be displayed on the radar anyway.

If this is true, they've made the same mistake again. First rule of online gaming is: "The client is in the hands of the enemy". Anything the client "knows" will be abused. If you want to keep information safe, don't make it available to the client until he needs it.

The last thing I want is an imbalance. The thing that riflemen need are the abilities to acutally use our advantages. I want the same for carbineers, pistoleers, BH's, Imperials, Rebels. Everyone should be different, and whoever uses their advantages best, wins. Just my 2 cents worth...

Noules000,

I agree, he does know what he's talking about. But I gathered that the point of logosys' post was that relatively minor fixes would go a long way. He specifically spoke out against one-shot-kills.

By the way, saw your posts against Meyree...my word that boy needs to take some statistics!
