I carry a beam rifle at times cause it looks cool, why would this be any different

Even if the berserker rifle was craftable by all weaponsmiths without needing a loot schematic and loot components, no one would use it because of the crap damage type and lack of AP.


Looks like it'll be nothing more than a house decoration for rich people.

I agree; although, I would add the DXR6B (Acid damage, medium AP) to that list.


I will still probably carry it if it hasat least semi-decent damage, just like I carry the SG82 despite the factthat I almost never use it (cold damage, AP0). There is always a chance that you may encounter atarget that is vulnerable tothe damage type of the weapon and has high resists or is invulnerable to all your other damage types. When it is vulnerable, the AP differences are not a factor. It will get no reduction in damage from AP whether the target is unarmored or heavy armor in that case.


Take, for instance, a target that has heavy armor, is heat vulnerable, and 80% resistant to energy. Against such a target, the T21 will do only 20% of its damage because of the resists. The Spraystick (energy and AP0) would do only 2.5% of its damage against this target. However, theBerserker (if it is, in fact,heat damage) will do 100% of its damage because armor and resistance factors are bypassed when the target is vulnerable to that damage type. Therefore, the Berserker has to have an average damage of only 21% of the T21's to out perform it against this target. If the target was unamored with those resists, the T21 will only do 39% of its damage, so the Berserker would only have to have an average damage of 40% of the T21 to outperform it.


So, yeah, I will carry it depsite the AP0, but it will probably not get much use.

If there was anything worth killing that had heat vulnerability, the commandos would have found it by now.

Does anyone have a link to where a DEV states recently what the new rifle will be? Or a screenshot of a crafted rifle? I have heard blast, heat, energy, AP0, AP1..... I would like to actual proof that a DEV has said "this" or "that" or a screenie.

If it is not too much trouble.

I actually received confirmation straight from a Programmer Dev that the new Beserker Rifle will do Heat damage...I haven't heard confirmation on it's AP, but popular opinion is that it's AP0...I'd link you to the actual post for confirmation, but it's in the Correspondent forum (which only Correspondents have access too)...The Dev did ask that we help get the word out to help dispell the rumors.


As for whining...This Commando was actually hoping that your profession would get a Blast Damage Rifle...It's always been the Devs idea that Commando was the Ranged Profession that should do Blast damage (Swordsman's are the Melee profession that does Blast Damage with power hammers)...I was hoping that if they decided to open that up to other ranged professions, they might also start considering giving Commandos a Ranged weapon with ranged skill mods and ranged specials as a trade off...No whining...not ranting...just hoping to push that balance thing...


Someone did point out that with this weapon addition, the Rifleman profession has a very nice collection of damage types...that, although might not seem like much, is at least something positive.
