Thread: Mindshots 101: How Mindshots Work

Okay... I've modified the 'Notes' section for the Muon 101 class to say the following:

Other Notes:
-- Bleeds by themselves do not give you XP. In order to get XP you MUST shoot the creature with
any other rifle shot that does immediate damage, such as a Head Shot.
-- Citairen_Mugarrii reported that MS2 bleeds tick every 20 seconds for Three minutes (9 bleeds)
-- and that MS1 bleeds tick every 20 seconds for Two minutes (6 bleeds)

Damage:
-- Mindshot 1does 1.5x damage
-- Mindshot 2does 2.0x damage
-- Mindshots IGNORE armor and resists, as I understand it.
-- Weapon's Armor Piercing (AP) MAY be taken into account... not sure

So if I am understanding things correctly, this means the damage from a MS2 chould be:
(basic shot damage) * 1.5 * 2.0
The 1.5 is a multiplier value that automatically gets applied to all shots, according to Flyojumper. (See the threadin this forum on 'Styles'). I have no idea why SOE does this, but I think it has to be taken into effect withall shots.
Though the armor of the target is ignored, it is unclear whether the AP value of a rifle increases the damage. For those of you who don't know, a weapon has an Armor Piercing rating (AP) of 0-3 where 3 does the most damage and a target may have armor with Armor Resists (AR) 0-3 where 3 is the most protection. For every level difference between rifle and target there is a 25% increase or decrease in damage.

So POSSIBLY, you might see a Mindshot like this:
-- You are using a T21 (AP=3)
-- You are shooting Mindshot 2 at a target with bad armor (AR=0)
-- You fire a shot with base damage of 350...

Damage = shot_damage * 1.5 * mindshot_damage_multiplier * armor_piercing_bonuses

Damage = 350 * 1.5 * 2.0 * (1.25* 1.25 * 1.25)= 2050 max possible mindshot 2 damage!

I THINK this is how it works. Please feel free to prove or disprove any of the above statements, and I will update my class notes!

You may be right, Geddeo...

I was trying to think back before Master when I was using MS2/MS1 on a regular basis. I don't remember ever seeing a MS2 over 1450 or so. I'll give it a bit to see other posts, but I may pull that AP/AR stuff out of the notes except for a comment like "AP and AR are not factors in the damage done by Mindshots".

What about this scenario. I hit a MOB with mindshot2 for 1000 damage. 3 Seconds later My friend hits the same MOB for 1010 Damage. What will happen in 20 and 23 seconds? Do they both stack or is it that a creature can only be under one mindshot 2 at a time.?

Wiikma...

I'm pretty sure they can only be affected by one MS2 and one MS1 at a time (but not 100% positive).

But you do raise an interesting scenario. If I hit MS2 for 900, then my friend shoots MS2 for 901, does his replace mine and he gets all the credit later?

That must be in the Mindshots 312 class. I'm not qualified to teach that one!

in 17 seconds the mob will suffer a 1010 bleed.. then again 20secs after that. one instance of ms1 and ms2 per mob.. highest hit is the one that counts.. doesnt matter where that hit comes from.. him you other

his replaces yours... cos its higher... niether of you get the loot or harvest rights when it dies cos niether of you hit it with a damaging attack.. the one that does the most damage gets the corpse rights.. unless you are both grouped of course

one thing to note.. even if the mob avoids or counterattacks the bleed hit.. it doesnt matter. The timer starts from that attack and at the value that was avoided/countered... only complete misses are failed MS shots..

Ok, so basically it comes down to this:

To choose your best rifle for any given target, make a complex formula with damage types, resistances, AR, AP, and DPS and find out what you best weapon for this target is, and change it for every target.

But for bleedshots, just take the one with the highest avg dmg (or highest min dmg if you prefer that), because no matter what you shoot at, this weapon will always have the best result.

Thanks for clarifying this. Now, where do I find that Muon 101 that was mentioned?

CalVines...

Basically you are correct! For muon gold, go find my post entitled "Muon Gold 101: How Muon Gold Works" (seriously).

Click on "Advanced" at the bottom of theRifleman Forum page.
In the "Message Subject" field, enter "Gold 101" and then search.
Click on the "Date/Time" column header if you want to reorder the search and see the most recent first instead of the oldest ones first.

Can somebody please tell me how to add a CLICKABLE link into one of these notes?? I can cut and paste an URL in here, but it is generally not clickable.

You have to use HTML tags to do that. Quote a post that has a link in it to see that. Basically you do this (but replace the brackets with greater/smaller than symbols):

(a href=http://www.myadress.com target=_blank)Text for my link(/a)

However, this requires that you can post HTML. I'm not sure who can do this and who can't. Sometimes you get the message that this is not allowed...

mindshot 2 definitely goes over 1450

put two of your preferred weapons in slots and one use for bleeds (high damage, max damage/min damage powerup, slow speed, high ham costs) then switch to the other ne for the kill (fast speed, lower damage, mind 33%/speed 16% powerup, low ham costs

several mind shot2's last night over 1450 and alot of mindshot 1,s in the 1200-1300 range
