This is a story about the beauty of Warning Shot. I have told this story before, but I always love repeating it.

This took place back in the old days, meaning (1) No good armor, (2) No buffs, (3) No chef foods, and (4) the dreaded 2.5x Melee penalty for riflemen. I had Master Marksman and was working up the Rifleman tree. At the time I was using a nice DLT20A because the Mind costs for my T21 and Laser were too high (and remember: no chef foods to help me).

Now for those of you who have grown up as a rifleman in the era of buffs, armor, and chef foods, Warning Shot was probably never an attack you paid much attention to. I think you get it somewhere near the top of "Rifle Abilities" in the fourth Marksman Tree. Warning shot, if it stuck, would send the target running in the opposite direction for a while. It could be messy, because sometimes it wouldnt stick, or else the targetwould run about 128m or so and stop, so then you had to go track them down again.

While most people at the time were doing Baz Nitches on Dantooine for rifle xp, I preferred hunting Mountain Squill on Tatooine. They are very tough, but were worth about 4.5K. I was working on aMountain Squill lair on Tatooine one time and had carefully positioned myself prone, about 60m from one. Now with the 2.5x melee penalty, you REALLY didn't want these bad boys to get to you. So I fired off my first few shots and he finally woke up and began to charge me. I fired head shots until he was at about 30m, then I squeezed off a warning shot. It stuck, and he took off running the other direction. Now if he got outside of 64m, I would have to get up and chase him, but any other damage would turn him back around on me. So I fired off a head shot which hit him at about 60m. Sure enough he turned towards me again, full speed. A couple of head shots and he was 25m away, so I quickly fired off another warning shot. It stuck. He turned and ran again. At 60m, head shot, here he comes. At 20+m, a warning shot, there he went. I must have yo-yo'ed this poor Squill ten times in a row before he dropped. Every shot I needed to stick stuck at just the right time. Poor guy never had a chance. Now I figure the odds of all my shots sticking when they did were astronomical - I think I sat back in my chair after that one, took a deep sigh, and told myself "Wow! that was beautiful!". I doubt he realized that he died the perfect death (well, at least from MY point of view!)

These were the days...

This will prolly bring back some memories for you pre buff people (mostly bad). CH is a semiviable PvP template again because they lost the 75% damage reduction.

really I had not heard that... need to check that out again

I began playing when doctors buffs existed, but I do have prebuff memories. I was such a noob for the first month, that I had no idea buffs even existed, hence it was pre-buff as far as I was concerned

Anyway, I used to go group hunting on Tatooine, just outside of Mos Eisley. This one wookie used to take newbs out to help them with leveling and cash flow. And we went out, unbuffed into the wilds ofTatooine to hunt Squill, dewbacks, banthas, and whatever else came out way. This wook must have been old school, because we never used foods or uber weapons or armor or anything. We would literally walk around Tat until everyone completed their two missions, it really felt like an adventure everytime we went out because of camping and stuff like that.

My first month of SWG is truly my fondest memory. Then I learned about Doctors Buffs, Composite Armor, ans Solo Missions...and we all know what happens then...

Back in the day at the Tuskan Camp between Wayfar and Jabba's Palace was the place to grind melee/range XP. When "Apprentice Sharpshooter" was a elite class. Or when The very first Creature Handler players on Intrepid server started taking the tuskan camp with their 3 rancors pets they EACH had.

My worst BF I have ever had was 950 BF. That was from the first day I played and tried to walk from Kor Vella to Coronent (didnt have $$ for shuttle yet). I died halfway. The corpse had all my items. I died 8 times trying to get my items from the corpse. Did that ever suck.

The first time I ever logged into the worlds...I started at one of the main cities of Talus. The planet was beautifull, but there were so little people there. So....I started my journey just outside the outskirts of the city...and I found a few rasps. Magnificent little birdies! Lets kill em! Needless to say, those birdies were a bit too fast for my CDEF pistol, and the fearsome beast had incapacitated me. It wasent long after that I found an adventurer...as scout. He taught me some of the basics of combat, while we took on the larger animals of Talus, he trapping them so we were able to shoot the beasts better. Magnificent times it was! Then it happend, the beast broke free from its trap and starting running towards us. My Hart pounding as he closed in, but the scout just in the nick of time managed to ensnare the beast again in its position. The beast was surrounded, and fell a few seconds later. My first kill....I felt powerfull, I felt great, and I learned my first Pistol skill! I asked wich planet would be the place to be to meet more people, he told me that would be Coronet on Corellia...so with that being my destination, I lent some money from a friendly traveler to make the journey.

Coronet city, the city where I purchased my first rifle, and began my path towards rifleman. I met another scout those days there, she tough me the ways to setup my own camp. I was thrilled! Now I was a true adventurer. It was around that time she left back for Tatooine, her home planet she told me. I decided after I purchased the Tusken rifle, to explore the desert world, but that planet changed the course of my future.....

...and thats a Story for another day

I started playing the very day that vehicles were first introduced...december 21, or somewere around there. 2003

I was ascout.

And i have lots of fond memories.

I started out in Tyrena, i remember going into the huge expance beyond the towering city skyscrapers. my first victim was a corellian butterly drone...killed it (barely). then i saw a guber..killed it again barely.

Then i saw my nemisis....the all mighty and powerful vynock. me and my trusty CDEF pistol at my side, i barely scratched him, then he incaped me. I looked on the bazaar and seen a CDEF carbine for 450 credits, i got that. and i started killing drones and guburs. but i was warry of my ever lurking nemesis mr.Vynock.

Then i got carbines 2. and i started killing drones and gubers a little easier.
I gathered up the courage to take on my arch rival of the corellian plains...after a leangthy battle i killed the Vynock and i still had some life left!!

Afterwards i got into rifles, and saved up for a tusken rifle. I got into a group and headed out of Coronet, there we met a Bocatt. which our group fought bravely. we had the bocatt down to only a smidget of life left. but we all died in the end.
Soon i discarded my tusken for a DL20a, and i met a group and ventured into the corellian mountains north of Kor Vella. there we met the horrid monsters called humbabas..we fought bravely, but we just could not kill the beast.

I started to find people from the same country as mine, and wonderred wich guild they were in. To my suprise it was an all Dutch guild and I figured, what the heck...Ill check it out. They had established one of the first player cities, and the location they choose was a perilous one. Straight through a long desert field from Mos Entha, Territories of Tusken Raider, Dragonets and other malicious creatures of Tatooine, 2.5km away from civilisation on top of a large canyon formation. Everytime going from Mos Entha to Majestic City was an adventure in itself, as mounts were just newly introduced, and the prices were still high. Each voyage through that area required me to manouver carefully between all the red dots, as I would surely have been dead otherwise. I never considerd going Imperial in the beginning, as I 'thought' at the time, being a rebel actually ment hiding from the empire. Well, back in those days it ment something, today its a joke. But one of the requirements of that guild was becoming Imperial, and I hesitantly joined up. But as time progressed, I started to enjoy it much more then I expected, also in general...the imperials on that server at the time were more 'mature'. I rememberred the joy of pvp, even without finished templates with a few friends, 3 stormtroopers ready to aid you, or even an ATST if you were lucky. Conflicts in Anchorhead and Bestine were a regular event back then, but I noticed that only having the marksman line of rifles would not cut it at all. I started the long grind of rifleman, with only the words 'it gets better at master', and Ranger to help me. I never once dropped Rifleman
