Thread: Teleporting Monsters Suck

Unfortunately it's not a bug. Dev's had in one set of patch notes that creatures/npc's would warp if they were stuck or didn't have a clear path or something like that. But what I've experienced is that mobs warp even though they have a clear path and a clear line of sight.......usually just a small ditch or raveen between us and suddenly they are right on top of me. The best one was the other night when I was picking off Tuskens and their banthas. I'd get at max distance and hs or ms one of the raiders/banthas and start running (not burst) as they mob aggro'ed. At one point I hit a raider with ms1 and ms2 and hs2, when they charged at me one of the banthas took the lead so I switched to start shooting him. The bleeding raider was left back at 94 meters or so and I had the bantha at 52m................all of a sudden I have the raider at 6m. I crapped myself because they had already dropped me to around 100 health points before I got out fo their range. All he had to do was hit me 1 freakin time and I was done for. But the gods were smiling on me. Just as he raised his gun to fire he bled to death. That had a happy ending, but you never want a tusken standing at 6 m when you are at 100 health points. Makes you a little queazy.

For that one that I got lucky there have been a dozen that weren't so lucky.

Only thing to do here is not go prone till it's fixed. We do need to keep the complaints going on the board though or it may never get fixed. At least the T21 is fixed (Whew)

(Bump)

This happens in more than just Attack mode. Last night I had a mountain squillbleeding to death close to me (about 30m) as I lay incapped. No problem... I'll lie there on my back and watch him die and collect my 3300+ XP while I rest. *ZAP* He's gone over 90 meters away, then disappears off my radar. No XP, but I got lots of time to look at the stars overhead...

Yeah I haven't been going prone, unless I'm sure the creature is definitely not going to warp (and also that I'm not going to warp!).

You know what's also bad? When the creature warps like 100 meters in the opposite direction after a warning shot... warps right into another group of his friends, and then brings 6 more over to play with me. blah.

Bah I got a Dark Jedi Knight down to half health (90% resist to everything, AR3 and over 20k mind), and then ZAP no more Dark Jedi, he just vanished.

I have to admit I hadn't heard about the "path" fix problem before this thread. But it sure seems as if the cure is worse than the disease. Or maybe I'm just prejudiced because it's me the creatures are trying to find a path too, lol.

Can someone explain what the problem was BEFORE this wonderful fix (he said with a hideous hint of sarcasm) ??

I had this happen too, I'm a rifleman and 2 handed swordsmen, so I like to take my sword out for melee occasions. Anyways I was killing some nym, or merc and he warped 60m to me and whacked me for 800 damage. Another time I was using my power hammer to kill another npc, I was right on top of him, we both were in melee mode hitting each other, then all of a sudden I get the out of range message even though he was right on top of me. He then shoots me, while he has a melee weapon out and is on top of me, dies and then slays me after he incaps me. The funny thing is he somehow made a hologram of himself, got outside of the walls of the camp shot me, then warped back and slayed me, all this while he was pushing diasies. I was in a group, with a medic and they were able to take him out. I got the details from my combat log, since all I saw on screen was him dying followed by me dying 2-3 seconds later.

Yah, I know the feeling. Last night I was on Lok, looking for some wild wheat. You know the planet where EVERYTHING is hostile. Most critters aren't bad, they don't agro untill you get pretty close to them. But just when I found a good spot, a pirate agroed on me from 64m. 'ported right to me, and killed me in one hit. I never saw him till I was laying on my back waiting for the clone window.

I couldn't agree more, addressal of the issue of warping mobs is a top Rifleman priority. I average 10-15 deaths a die to teleporting mobs, and lose tens of thousands of experience points to enemies that, just seconds before their deaths, inexplicably warp back to their spawning point with full health. Forcing Riflemen to engage at melee range is absolutely unacceptable, as it guarantees an endless burden of being one and two-shot. Even in the event of surviving the first attack, server lagmakes it almostimpossible to activate Burst Run and sprint away before the second hit arrives. This makes gaining experience a constant frustration, and the grind positively agonizing.

It has gotten to the point where if I think I may get incapped (and the MOB is not a killer) I run straight towards the nest! That way if they teleport, it's still usually in range. I would like to avoid going prone also, but I like getting those two mindshots in before I'm seen....

Seflyn,

In the last 3 days, I've had a total of about 10 creatures disappear on me, a shot or 2 before death. Happening more and more often, I almost threw my monitior out the window when it happened 5 times in a row one day. Against creatures that took about 15 minutes on average for me to kill . It seems like alot of people are starting to get this, but most havent mentioned it in the boards. This is my #1 ISSUE right now.

Isnt Rifleman hard enough to level already?

This was a nasty "fix" to an exploit players used to use on large meleemobs(rancors were popular, saw this all the time walking around on Dath) that for whatever reason (ridge, wall, river, etc...) couldn't advance on the player attacking, and fight back. I guess the only solution SOE could find was: "Well, where ever the player is standing must be "safe ground", so we'll have the mob warp to where ever the client is located."Unfortunately they took this waaay too far, andcaused ANY object (even stuff thatoriginally the NPC would simply walk around) thatobstructs the NPC's path, to be warped not only past, but directly to the client.

So there you have it. Because of exploiters and SOE's poor planning, we riflemen recieve the shaft once again.

This topic keeps coming up in a new thread just about every day, so I'm going to bump this and hope more people will add their worst stories here so that Aldeon can maybe point to it in a future report.

Everyone.... tell us the most outrageous 'teleportations' you've seen!

Aldeon... think you could point to this at some time in the future?
