Thread: Rifleman or commando?
TKM/Rifleman is the stronger combo.
One of my chars is both master rifleman and master commando. I find myself hardly ever using any Commando skills except when something is 100% energy, 100% acid, and 100% stun. e.g. some of the Nightsisters. Or if something has megaHAMs, I'll first get some burns going, then decimate it with strafeshot2. Right now Commando isn't even in the same league with Rifleman, despite requiring many more skill points. Alot of the Commando weapons are alot of fun to try out though if you've never used them. Just don't rely on them in PvP. No attachments willever put you close to the powerof a Master Rifleman if you go down to 0/0/04. And you'll lose thebest specials and your accuracy will be a turd.
If you just want to try something new because you think it would be cool, or you really want to use a flamethrower, go for it.
I dropped rifleman for a while and did Bounty Hunter, it was fun but I wanted to dabble a bit and didn't like using all my skill points. The lightning cannon was a riot.
If you're trying to have the toughest character possible, then rifleman/anything is probably the way to go. Commando has less damage per second by a long shot when you figure in accuraccy, speed, and armor piercing.
I say try it, and drop it if you don't like it.

Yeah it is! I went up to BH 0013 before the xmas holo told me to master commando. The flamethrower is cooler than the LLC though.
