I was attempting to help someone out with a villiage quest this weekend, and ended up having an argument about bleed pulling.
My job was to pull the high level sith out of their base so the others could pick them off one by one. Being a Ranger I very rarely hunt NPCs - I wasn't even aware they could be pulled one at a time. So I figured it would be an interestesting learning experience. One that ended up having a very sharp curve.
But I'll skip the tales of bloody death and dismemberment and get right to the argument.
The person I was with insisted that I use conceal shot to pull the siths. I have not used the pull method of hunting much (I prefer they NEVER aggro me), but I was pretty sure I needed to use a bleed, peace, and wait for the tic. I got called a moron (okay, the term was a bit stronger
) for not knowing how to pull. Two riflemen I was on teamspeak with at the time agreed that they always used a bleed and not conceal shot. Both of them are very experienced and I am confident they are right.
However, is there a secondary way of pulling that I am missing that involves conceal shot? Or is the confusion coming from the fact that conceal shot will sometimes cause a bleed, which will aggro the animal?
Thanks!

Like you I prefer not to get an aggro when using Conceal shot. If I do I eitherrun away or switch to my spraystick and run in an plant some poison.
But with my pistoleer if I want to bleedpull I do a healthshot1 or two and then peace. I back off to just outside the range and wait for them to feel the hurt and get angry. Sometimes, if I've got mask scent onit doesn't work andit starts attacking my bike (not so clever).

No,you are right.
The way to pull is MindShot + Peace + move out of range + wait for first tick.
Now, with that said, I did try to pull some Siths away from their group last week with that method and only had SOME success. Most of the Siths I did this to did pull away from the group, however I did have a couple that just refused to leave their buddies. Maybe these were the co-dependent Siths, but whatever the problem was, I just couldnt draw them out.

personally i woulda said CYA!!! and left soon as the insults started. but those sith arent like other NPC. i had more success just using a non-special attack and letting inherent single pull ability draw one out. sometimes i got two but that seemed to work better then the normal bleed and run tactic.

Actually I couldn't blame the guy for his frustration, we had several miscommunications.
1. He said the turrets would be inactivated when the sheilds went down. Since I was being ripped apart by SOMETHING that de-aggro'd as soon as I stepped out of range, I thought differently. None of the sith I could see were aggroing me and nothing chased me.
2. Since I couldn't get in range of the sith without suffering severe health problems, another group member told me to send a pet in to attack the turret and the sith wouldn't aggro it (okay...) Against my better judgement - I am a MCH, I should know better - I did so and of course they all aggro'd.
3. We all died.
So I can forgive the bad words directed at me, since it was my fault. I just didn't think it had to do with the fact I wasn't using conceal shot. I wanted to ask him more about why he thought that, but figured I'd get a better answer here.
Thanks for the verification!

i am sorry to hear of your miss-adventure. you should go with your gut feeling, instinct and knowledge of the game more often. you were correct in EVERY instance here.
1. the turrets were ripping you appart and have to be destroyed. they do NOT de-aggro on their own.
2. you are a master ch, you know full and well how NPCs react to your pets. you were correct in doubting these would be any different.
3. you all died, but none of it was your fault. if you had been allowed to use the methods you KNOW work (single-bleed-pull, etc.) you could have completed this mission.
assertiveness training my friend! LOL just put your foot down when you know you are right. and you were right

i found the outer turrets handy for strafe2 to bring down the inner walls and the inner turrent in between sith spawns since AOE attacks are not affected by walls. our melee guy ran in and burst ran out and no worries with the thugs they give up the chase pretty fast.

QFE.
You *can* pull with concealShot, but you have to wait for a random bleed to stick, which *can* take awhile.

just in case you are willing to help someone else do this quest, here's my bit of advice. kill the turrets, one at a time, _before_ the shield is dropped. makes life a whole lot easier. then, if there's a tk, have them run up, drop the gates and inner turret as soon as the shield is dropped, then run back out.
not that i'm a rifleman, but in my experience with carbines, i can shoot a critter/npc with a bleed shot, then peace, and it'll aggro me after the first bleed. it can be a bad day for me when i bleed a group instead of an individual... seems like it should work that way for rifles, too. i'm guessing they insisted on conceal shot since the target doesn't know who is attacking it and they figured the other sith wouldn't either so the group of them wouldn't chase you. sorry to hear you died; those sith aren't wimps.

Thank you! And I'm taking the good advice about assertiveness above. Next time I do this - I lead.

Also make sure you're prone when pulling humanoid NPCs via bleed

if your standing they will all see you and have a very good chance to come after you immediately on the first shot
if your kneeling the chance is reduced a great deal
if your prone they will almost never all come after you on the first shot.
must be at 50m+ for this to work with good success.
i usuall just kneel when bleed pulling. but i suggest you start from prone until your used to the ins and outs of the technique.
