Thread: single biggest prob with being a long range combat person
Pistols actually hit better at long range because they have BARELY ANY PENALTIES.
Laser rifle has such a tight ideal range that if the enemy takes two steps away from you, you go from +20 to -40 to hit. And at max range of 64 meters you're -80, while just 4 meters closer you're at +20.
Pistols have higher DPS. Pistols can one-shot just as well as rifles can. Pistols can hit easier at close range where most fighting takes place. Pistols can hit fairly well even at long range. Pistols can out melee a swordsman.
Take my advice, please don't waste the time playing a rifleman.
64m range for rifles is a joke. In real life I can easily hit targets at 1000m with my rifle. There's a reason why in real life armies don't fight battles with pistols. But in this game, there's no disadvantage to doing so, and many advantages.
I think that in the game they should give rifles at least 150m range. Let carbines stay at around 64m, and drop pistols down to 32m.
You've got my vote. I'm sick of seeing Pistols hit at the same range I do, not only that, but hitting faster, and doing more damage from that range. Go up against someone usingpistols at this point and you may as well be waving a big red flag. They have you at range and only gets worse when its closer. It would seem to me in comparing the class just from what I've seen in grouping, they have little to no disadvantages, meanwhile Rifles, in laymans terms...r teh suq.
The other complaint that I seem to be having that fits right in line with what you guys are saying, is that shooting upclose with a rifle is very unlikely to do much damage, that is if we dont miss. Using a rifle was meant for a long distance, so when the MOB runs up to me, I try running back, and shooting, or threatening it, to make it run, but those options don't always work. But, when a pistol or carbineer starts at 60 or so meters, and the MOB gets closer, not only are they shooting every 1.5 seconds (at average), but their "accuracy", and"ideal range"is getting better. As Riflemen, we get one good shot before the damage we do getstechnically weaker and weaker, whereas the other two only have to gain from the approaching MOB. I think the dev's should do one of three things --
1. Give Riflemen 100or 150m range
2. Take away the accuracy of Pistol's and Carb's at 60+ meters
3. Give Riflemen a broader "ideal range"... Letssay 60 meters to 40 meters, so anywhere in those 20 meters the Rifleman should get off at least 2 good, powerful shots.

Dude I hope your on the olympic team or some sort of seal team cause a 3280foot shot is amazing.
Heres to hopin you meant 100m
But ya we should be able to nail stuff from 100m but its kind hard when stuff only 'appears' at freakin 128m or closer sometimes.

No, to qualify at the Marine Sniper School you have to hit shadows movingthrough smoke at 1000m. It might even be harder today.
There's no reason why the SNIPER CLASS in this game should be any different. Maybe not 1000m but definitely longer than ~60m

Hitting a target at 1000m with a scoped rifle is not very hard at all. Before World War One, the US Marines in basic training used800m targets. That wasusing the old Springfield Model 1903, and that was over iron sights, not scoped. It all depends on the weapon you are using. Hitting a target at 1000m with an M16A2 (with or wothout a scope) would be an amazing feat. Doing the same with a Springfield M1903 isn't that hard.
The maximum effective combat range for the Springfield M1903 is listed as 900-1100 yds, maximum range is 3500 yds. For the M-16A2 we have 600m and 800m respectively. The weapon makes a huge difference.
As far as I'm concerned, in this game if you're using a rifle; if you can see it, you should be able toshoot it.
oh, for the record. The weapon with which I personally can hit targets at 1000m with is my Mauser 98k with a 10x scope.
so much for our rifle correspondent and SoE caring about the range problems in the game.
IE pistols and carbs hitting at 64m just like we do..
What has SoE told you about this ? is there any fix inc ? Do they give a crap ?
not asking for us to be able shoot out to 100m but just asking that weapon ranges work like they should..
I agree with what has been said. 64m for a rifle is a joke. SOE have really dropped the ball on this one. If they are not going to extend the range for goodness sakes make it so Pistols and Carbines have such massive penalties that it makes fighting at this range not feasible.
I mean at the moment we are really suffering.
Hey all , I agree that our max range should be increased , and the range that carbines and pistols can shoot effectively must be reduced .
I tested this myself . With a rifle at ideal range ( 60m for my Laser ) I barely miss in prone ..... with a pistol RUNNING at 60m .... I BARELY MISS ! A solid green wall of hits with my **edit** Cdef pistol of all things , running away at 60m .
Just ridiculous and needs to be fixed ASAP .
This is priority one in my opinion . Hope ya see this correspondent .
Thanks and good hunting all .
