Thread: I think I am finally getting this profession.

I suppose it doesnt help that I was ablademaster before cause I was thinking "yeah, I am starting to get some melee defense and accuracy, I should be able to do better up close pretty soon and quit dieing all the time."

Wrong!

This profession is the hardest...starting out wise that I have encountered so far. I couldnt understand why players that were teaching me rifles 1,2,3 and 4 would look at me funny when I turned down ranged support. Of course now I have all of that column and am starting to understand how to play this profession I think.

My first strategy was just like my fencing strategy, which was when the mob approaches to just pound away on one target so that he dies quickly and move to the next. This is a good strategy for fencing cause those guys can tank for hours. I was haveing trouble however because the other members of the mob would easily get on top of me to which at that point I couldnt hit the broad side of a barn and would eventually incap or die.

My new strategy now comes from the understanding that it is curcial to keep the phsycosat a distance. I constantly switch targets and use warning shots and suppression fire to keep the mob at a distance and manipulate them into positions that are good for me and then start takeing head shots. Of course I still die alot cause I just got novice and I am too slow. Playing this profession takes alot of strategy so it is an absolute blast to play, eventhough I have alot of setbacks.

I searched through the FAQ but didnt really find anything on tips to be sucessfull, so I was wondering if someone could point me there or reply with some tips if I am doin it wrong.

Thanks

#1 get a FAST rifle a speed sliced laser close to 4.0 is the optimum mix of damage and speed for a starting rifle user. scout trapping4 can greatly help. use your bleeds to hit the target once then back off 80 meters and take em one at a time. other than that your strategy with using warning shot is a sound one just need to practice a bit.

the rifle faq is not too bad, the simple idea is to do missions on dantooine, quencker and hutoons,

use a pet ( get a nice non ch pet) and group and got for on a hunt, quencker are usually in groups of two, and per lair tap only 2 will show up in a total of 6 per lair.

with a group pet its around 3k xp per quencker

dont use a t21 until youre master use a good laser rifle

for skill get concealshot when you go solo cause they never will aggro you

then go for the counter-sniping tree until IV, the flushing2 is a AE damage shot, at this level get a high HAM non ch pet, let it attack the quencker lair . you target the lair too and spam the flushingshot2 und with 5-8 shoots lair and 6 quencks are dead, you got bout 18k xp and the mission reward

skill tree advancement 0-1-4-x, then 4-1-4-x, then 4-4-4-x then master

When I first started becoming a rifleman, there wasn't a faq on here. Now that there is one all new novice's should take advantage of it.

oh by the way, I dont have a laser rifle but a bowcaster that is 3.8 for 298 dmg. It works really well.

Laser rifle is medium AR (2) as opposed to the bowcaster which is AR0 you should notice a significant dmg increas between the 2. The main downside to a Laser Rifle is its low low minimum dmg.

ok, I will get one then, thank you. Does the armor piercing still go by the armor guide or the devs way. I read both threads, but I didnt see if there was a difinitive change.

A T21 witha speed slice and a speed powerup can also be used effectively by a non-master. Before mind buffs, I used to worry about ham costs in my powerup, but now you should go with a 33% speed/16% max dmg powerup (or vice versa). Also, I used a lot of overcharge shot when I leveled early on in my rifle career. It tears up your rifle, but the extra dmg is significant. Those were the days...those were the days. When I was told routinely that "rifle suxors".

This profession's hard to level? Jesus, you must be incompetant or something then, my BH was 10x harder to level, I never even bothered with armor on my RM character until I was master...

Lol ok looks like the best thing to do is to get one of each and use them for different situations. By the way I have seen lots of people here use the jawa ion gun, what is the advantage of that besides the stun ability?
