Thread: Startleshot Combo?

I tried this out a few times last night with my BH friend and it seemed to work, but I couldn't really be sure and thought I would allow the rest of you to try it and see for yourself.

The BH would knock the NPC down and I would follow it up with a startleshot and the npc would not get up for 5 seconds or so. This might be my immagination, but I'm pretty sure the NPC's stayed down a lot longer than normal because of the startleshot. I noticed that my startleshot icon doesn't have much of a wait time when I use another shot so we might able to use it solo if we have a knockdown from another prof like BH or use the melee strike.

With a group of 3 last night we were able to kill level 82 rebels without ever getting shot because we worked this combo. When they did get up I would hit disarming shot and it was 10 seconds or more into the battle before the NPC would take its first shot. I used hs and legshot in the middle there, they seem to be on different timers for me so while one is cooling down the other is ready to fire. In a battle system where the enemy ignores the tanks and goes after the dmg dealers, it is nice if you can stop them from attacking at all.

Works okay-ish solo too, with MBH/Rifles. Knockdown then startle gives you enough time to get a critical in and usually enough time to almost get a torso shot in, then they're usually up and running.
But with a rifle, that's still a world of hurt with the NPC having little chance to retaliate very well.
Not overpowered at all, just "nice".

I would do this with a RL (MC/MR) Shot the RL with SS. Switch to t21 and SS tell dead. They never get up. Works on krayts too. Too easy in the grave yard

I've found Firearm Strike followed by Startleshot very nice for those pesky melee targets... Except Krayts, I use the Startleshot before the Firearm Strike, that way they don't disrupt my KD. Really like the animation for Firearm Strike too, riflebutt to the gut.

Got the same Idea today when I was looking at the specials X-4-X-X Pistoleer gave me

I have not been able to test this in pvp since most of my friends don't like to duel. Something I want to check, but can't find anyone to verify this, does startleshot stop the cooldown timer from moving (freeze the black timer on the icons), or does it just stop any action from being preformed? If it stops the cooldown time from moving, the cure knockdown icon will probably be ready to hit before you can get the startleshot off, making this combo less usefull in pvp.

Another thing that psyco pointed out is that improved disarm shot from pistol has a very similar effect for the same amount of time and both it and startleshot work near 100% of the time. As a matter of fact, I notice that both work even if you miss. Currently I can alternate between the 2 and the NPC never gets to shoot. This works great 1v1, but since both take a ton of action and disarmingshot does little dmg, this is not a tactic that can be used in all cases. It actually works better with a pistol for me in a group so I can tank for a long time and let other deal dmg. With my T21 it is easier to start with a snipershot and deal high dmg with hs and startleshot. I get hit more often, but the battle ends in 1/3 the time.

If only Snipershot would work! I have yet to have it fire since the CU has gone live. I have tried everything that has been posted and it just does not work for me.

I'll have to experiment with Startleshot and my Pets knockdown ability once they fix the pet specials. In the meantime I'll be using startle shot more often!

Yes, it also is a delay shot. Notice that little purple Icon the MOB's get when you hit em, that mean they can not attack you.
