lets do the thought excercise on damage types again.
bounty hunters can do heat acid energy lightning and set things on fire yet they dont make other classes obsolete namely comando.
swordsmen have a targeted mind attack, do they then make rifle obsolete??
the DX2 pistol is the best pistol that the pistoleers have it is AP1 and Acid yet somehow the carbineer and commando is not obsolete. the pistoleers also have the striker pistol which is a kinetic weapon but it doesnt appear to be making TKM useless.
now for the grouping argument. some devs put forth the argument that having different damage types being restricted to different classes enhances grouping and group interdependency. i posit that it does EXACTLY the opposite. here is why.
a group of 10 consisting of varied professions and only one melee player come across a nite sister elder. everyone EXCEPT the melee type can participate because they can all damage the elder. the melee type has to sit idly by not participating and getting angry and not wanting to group anymore after a ceries of such fights.
the same group comes across a nite sister spellweaver and since it happens to be immune to everything but melee the lone melee is FORCED to solo it. the group sits idly by watching the fight and getting angry that they cannot participate.
conclusion not having every damage type available to all classes in SOME way forces people to solo and grouping ONLY exists in a limited sense and mainly only to raise skills. think enraged rancor groups on dath. in theory limited damage types SOUNDS good. but in reality it is exactly the opposite because not all of the group can participate in all fights.
this does NOT mean that there should be kinetic AP3 800-1200 damage versions of T21s or AP3 energy based vibro knucks.
