Thread: Rifleman IS NOT overpowered

I tried dueling against a TKM friend last night.

He beat me every time, because TKM seems to have the ability to knock you down even ata range of just over 10m.

Before we started a duel I made sureI wasn't standing in point blank proximity of him (obvious), and as soon as it started, I'd run AWAY while attempting to land a dizzy on him (to stop him burst running after me), but EVERY SINGLE TIME before I could even get a shot off, from across the gap between us, he'd land a KD on me.

From this experience, I will scoff at anyone who says the rifleman profession is overpowered. Yes we have powerful abilities, no argument there, but we're no more powerful (in different ways) than other combat professions. Take Combat Medic for example too, they are ridiculously overpowered, they just throw a poison bomb and BANG instant death.

The thing that we have going for us in PvP, is if we can get the element of surprise. The only way we can do that is if we have protection in numbers, so that there are too many red blips on your target's radar so that it takes a while for them to work out where you are. Let's face it, since the battlefields don't work, that hardly happens. If someone starts shooting at you, it's pretty obvious to work out where they are.

This is so obvious and yet no one I say it to seems to get it. I really may go insane one of these days...

Drop ranger and pick up TKM if you wanna own him.

Or, get a damaged sliced and powerup t21 or a damage sliced and powerup Jawa and kill him in a few shots.

I was using such weapons

Oh, and why are you NOT using burst run. You are a ranger, dont you get some kind of run bonus. At master rifle level accuracy and speed are high enough that he should never even get close to you.

He knocked me down before I could burst run, I think I said this above.

Anyway MR is over powered. Anytime I can fire at the same rate as a master pistoleer and point blank range with no real loss for accuracy and do like 5 times the damage, I would say thats overpowered.

And pistoleers can fire at rifleman range, meh. The point in, we are poweful, but we're not invulnerable.

At one time we were pretty much average in PVE and really good in PvP provided we got the first shot. Then buffs/armor/food came and now we own PvE (with other master combat professions) and are still very good at PvP.

Overpowered you bet, but so are other master combat classes....I doubt this will ever be fixed. At last we agree on something The supposed combat revamp will lower everyones power and force grouping, which is the day a lot of people will quit including myself. I am glad we are overpowered, it makes the game a little more enjoyable for me.

For the original poster, if you're against melee stackers, I believe you possess 2 big advantages.

Master Rifleman- Well, we know of the advantages. A solid, working, ranged profession.

Master Ranger- You have insane Terrain Negotiation.

Pick your battlegrounds against your buddy (or opponent). Take the fight to the hills or mountains where your superior terrain negotiation will allow you to kite like no other. If your target ducks back into a building or town, don't fall for it, unless you can maneuver wide with good range to get your shots in. Most of all, have Burst Run ready to go if your opponent decides to go full throttle towards you. Whatever you do, keep at the VERY least 25m between you and your target.

With your T.Negotiation, fighting in nice, levelled cities/towns negates your advantage in the wild. Not to mention running into buildings if you're not watching out. Corner yourself and *POW* one dead Rifleman/Ranger.

It can work for you with to a degree since some of the melee def.stackers are just that: All melee with very high defenses. Alot of them (including ranged players) scoff at even the Exploration line for Scout.

Now, couple things where your current template will have trouble: Melee/Ranged hybrids, Smugglers, anything with ranged posture down/KD attacks. With Master Ranger & Master Rifleman, you must accept the fact that you have no Def. vs XXX mods of good use. I'm not saying for you to drop Ranger, but I myself would just resign to the fact that there are templates out there that would defeat me easily. It's a big matter of fighting the right fight for yourself.

One not well know issue in regards to Terrain Negotiation. It caps at +50. Anything over that is a bonus to crawl speed. So you will be nearly as fast as a Ranger with just Exploration IV from Scout.

Are you serious? That's screwed up! I was planning on trying Ranger out, too.

Think your opponent likely has Master Brawler in his template. He likely used Unarmed Lunge2 on you, which has a 20m range and a knockdown effect, but goes against posture change (down) resistance, not knockdown resistance (generally has a better success ratio).

Dunno, I think Brawler hits are 5m base... and with lag I can see KD2 hitting up to 15m.
