The two professions do not compliment each other well. One attacks the mindpool, the other the action pool.

It's up to you, but they are completely incompatible professions. If you go carbineer, BH compliments it well, and if you go rifleman, a melee prof goes well with it. Carbineer mainly does energy and acid damage, and Rifleman already has the most powerful energy and acid damage in the game, so it would be redundant, and I don't know how much you would end up using carbineer.

On the other hand, carbineer has some nice area KDs and Dizzy attacks.

I'm acturally considering rifles and carbines as well. Use carbines for state, dizzy, kd and then switch to rifles for finishing them. It would take work and lotsa credits to do well with it, but I think it would be fun. The template I'm considering is Master Rifleman, Carbineer 3400, BH 0400, Medic 0030, Combat Prowess 4000. That template would give capped carbine speed, and high accuracy. All you would need is a +2 rifle speed tape to be capped with rifles as well. Just something I'm thinking about.

Eh...I thought about this template as well, but I tried it out on TC-Ahazi and was not impressed at all. I went Master Rifleman/Master Carbine and took the Carbine line from BH to get Fire Knockdown. I fought a bunch of different people and I don't think Fire KD worked once. In theory, this template looks and sounds great, but if you can't score the Knockdowns, this template is a waste of points IMO. In large scale PvP, where you're going to have a wide variety of templates running around, this template could be advantageous. But against a defense stacker, you're toast IMO. I have a template with Master Rifleman that's stacked to the point that not even a Master TK/ M Fencer / M Brawler can knock me down or land a state...the odds of a Fire KD getting to me are just as slim.

I totally encourage the use of ranged weapons in this game, but realize that with this Rifle/Carbine thing, you will have virtually no defenses, not to mention the fact that Block and Counterattack do not stack with one another at all. In an ideal world, you'll get off those KDs whenever you need them, switch guns and then Headshot them while they flop around. Combat is never an ideal world, and that's why I don't like this template; you are almost forced to rely on the Knockdown moves.

In large scale PvP, this template would probably have some value. If you hang back and blanket the area with states and KD's, you will eventually land some, and that will be much appreciated by the melee' fighters and fellow ranged combatants. However, in one on one PvP, unless you are fighting against someone with a similar template, or someone completely inept at PvP, you're likely a sitting duck.

If you can get on TC, try this template out there first. Who knows, maybe you'll have better luck than I did. All I know is that I tried this same template out and for One on One PvP, I don't think I won a single fight. If anything, Rifleman/Pistoleer is probably the better ranged combo. Why? Pistoleer actually has defenses you can make use of. Plus, you can get the Geo Blaster and have a stun weapon to compliment your Jawa as well as a DX-2 to do with the DXR-6b. Further more, with BH pistols in the mix, you have Eye Shot, which attacks the mind. In truth, Rifleman/Pistoleer may seem redundant, but I had a fair degree of success with this template.

If you're doing carbineer for state attacks, it's not even worth it. Flushing Shot 2 can area stun and Flurry Shot 2 can area dizzy. You won't have blind, but if you wanted to do that you'd pick up a melee prof or go pure carbines.

what about Rifleman/Pistoleer?

The defenses dont stack either. Wait.... do carbineers have defenses? lol

TKM/master rifleman has worked very well for me.

Well said And yes, TKM/Master Rifleman is a sound combination. You won't be agod in PvP, but you'll at least have a fighting chance. Your only concerns will be CM's, DoT-punks, and defense stackers. Against "non-uber" PvP templates though, you'll be more than adequately equipped if you spend the rest of your points wisely. Still, no two fights go the same way, and if you're smart and know how to kite, you should even be able to compete against some defense stackers as well.

Rifle/Carbs looks good on paper, don't know how well it real world works.

Ignore the KD attacks. Every good pvper should have Thakitlio (anti-KD food). Use flurry 2/Suppression2. Area Dizzy and Area Posture Down. Very nice combo, and gets around the whole KD defense food.
