I'm afraid asking "what should I know...." isn't going to get you many answers. You need to be a bit more specific. What do you want to know?

hmm tough i know theres alot to the game, i guess i just want to know the basics of what to expect.
ie does sniping have the potential for a one hit killshot or just high damage?

i feel this is probally my best profession as in the other games i play im also a long range fighter.(everquest im a wizard and planetside im AV).

also are there rifles with a optimal range of over 100 meters?

Ok, well let me start by saying that I love rifles. I have been a pistoleer and carbineer as well but rifles has been the most fun as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately we don't really have a one shot kill like a sniper. I suppose in PvP against someone with no armor and no buffs it could be possible to one shot incap him/her because we do have some high damage shots and our guns rock. We do have the only ranged kill shot thoughin snipershot.Snipershot willdeathblow an incapped opponent from anywhere up to 64m in PvP.

As for range, we don't get anything that can shoot from 100m sadly. The max range is still 64ish meters, even though many rifleman hate the idea of a pistoleer being able to shoot us from the same range that we can shoot them. Perhaps someday that will change, who knows.

Hope that helps.

still sounds like a fun class, from what i see in SWG 64m is a pretty good distance. course i cant wait till i can use/afford some of those sweet rifles. atm im using a DL20a rifle with 118-186. just another question though do headshots only do mind damage or are there ones that do health as well?

Mind only. Some of the other attacks hit random pools and have area affect damage.

Rifleman is a Proberly the least nerfed proff currently in game.

It does take some time to get to master if you are playing and not just grinding through, but the benifits from being a master rifleman really make a difference. How many other proffessions can solo a graul mauler nest in under 3 mins including all spawns from it?

Best advise is to learn what each shot does and remember that if you group and fight with friends its better to use the random damage shots and not the mind shots to take big stuff down or you group will be annoyed or wiped out ( talk before u shoot to find out what ham bar there going to be hitting the most).

halfway through rifles 4 in marksman so not long now to novice rifleman. atm im on tantoine(sp) doing jabba swooper camp missions because the commanders of the camps con red and give 1007 rifle exp. not to mention its fun to be able to pop a red con 3-4 times in the head before he even returns fire. i just need to find out if theres anything better then my current DL20a 118-184 rifle or if i should wait untill i can use the T11.

Doesn't sound like you have a plethora of combat XP saved up. Not too bad a thing really, but the key to Riflemen is speed (4th branch of our tree). While you are certified to use the T-21 at Novice, you may want to consider instead the Laser rifle (faster weapon) for general purpose use. Each has its own place while working up to master, so get at least one of each if you can. You'll probably want a speed slice on them as well as a few crates of Mind/speed power-ups.

EDIT: Oops, forgot about the new one. Invest in a DXR-6 as well. Acid damage is nice to have especially with its med AP.
