Thread: Safe to say rifles have been changed??

From what I can read via forums and see on the test centre it would seem that being a rifleman has been changed alot.. whith that I mean its no longer the "strafe 2" offensive damage monster it used to be, but now much more of a pure sniper, covert ranged career.


Am I wrong?


Ive been a commando for ages, and will continue that career also after CU, was considering getting rifles like I have on one of my alts.. but now Im reconsidering. Simply because I want that feel I have with rifles now, where I can use strafe and deal massive damage on multiple targets. It would seem that the strafing and crowdcontrol now are more a Carabineer trait, and single target heavy damage are rifles.


Would it be safe to asume that a rifleman now is a sniper?


I might have gotten the wrong idea here, let me know

pretty close to being sniper...but we have uber dmg compared to others(supposedly) thus meaning crappy armor and no area attacks/cone attacks...but it better be a really good dmg multiplier..

Im currently 1211 rifleman on test center, and I would say you are half correct.

Yes rifles are more long range single damage now, that is entirely correct.
What is incorrect is carbineers are the multi target damage dealers.
they are not.
they have multi target attacks, but they are not high damage attacks, they concentrate mainly on debuffs(crowd control).

the AoE damage dealers now appear to be commandos, and the ability to use rifle weapons with commando specials, and vica versa, would, to me, mean the ultimate AoE attacker in this system being commando/rifleman.

Well Commando dont have specials in the CU as far as I see, the base career I mean, as all the specials are buildt into their weapons, but they can stack say rifleman specials on a commando weapon. So snipershot on a commando weapon would come ontop of the already buildt in special of the commando weapon.


Just not sure rifles will be the best combo w. Commando.. though I might be wrong..


Anyone know for sure if theproton rifle will be using rifle speed?

oooh its a very interesting time!!!


got a good feeling about the CU (ignoring all the current crash and lvl'ing/exp issues..)


but basically I think its going to boil down to MRifle, and either MCommando (for outrightdamage)or MBH (for damage/defense balance)... then decide what single line out of the other ranged profs you want to chuck in... or maybe some medic..


mixing melee and ranged looks to be a no-no now..

true, most will land on pure ranged or melee, exception might be Commando and TKM, as Commando even get a VK certification. If its the best combo to go I know not.. its what I got on mu main toon atm.. but might drop TKM for ranged.

Yeah- it is changing. But it is going for the better I think. that was what it was meant to be, I believe.

And stop complaining and try ranger. Instead of giving us the kinetic armor (yeah, all we fight are kinetic dealers) they gave us Battle, and then decided we werent a combat class so we will eb running around being incapped by chubas.


When tailors tell you they cant make anythingstart complainign all the rangers packed their bags and left, well, you'll just have to run around naked or go harvest the chubas yourself.

rangers is a support profession...much like commando, bh and cm are



u go only with those on the field and u willdie 99.9% of the times...u have to have a pure combat profession back you or ur done...nothing to complain about.



rifleman,carabineer,pistoleer and fencer,tkm, pikeman and swords are the main combat professions in the game... commando much like bh has "add-ons" with extra mods and weapons...and rangers arent exactly ur run of the millwarriors or whatnot. in the movies the closest thing were scout troopers and they used pistols so i dunno.



ull most likely get the ld1 rifle tho

looking over the character builder, the Bounty Hunter LLC uses rifle xp. Would that mean the LLC is now considered a 'rifle'? I am thinking of going MR/MCH/ 4/0/0/4 BH for some fun. I figure, I will be far from a huge jedi hunting templete, but I think it will be interesting to get the LLC with my MR mods.

Well I got a hunch that Ranger + Rifles might be an awsome combo.. with the change to Ranger on its way I think the cammo kits might play a bigger role.. cover + cammo kit might become awsome. Guessing ofcourse



But I agree, a rifleman is the true sence of the word is a marksman, with precision shooting, sniping and covert ops. But damage and speed wise rifles still rock.. perhaps even more so now

First off, I am afraid I only speak English, so in order for me to fully understand you're posts you will have to post in it



And second of all, perhaps none of you realize this, but rangeris the most "screwed" of all professions so far. They expect us to fight and spend 2/3 of our skillpoints getting Master Ranger. We will be harvesting chubas because we won;t be able to solo anything- I am not asking for Krayts here, but I have a feeling that anyone who doesn;t play ranger wouldn't be able to understand. You can choose ONE combat profession, and that is all you have to take down anything. Our traps are crap, camps are worthless in combat, Tracking isn't effective since you have to have SPAWN something (been near it and caused it to pop up) before tracking, meaning what you are tracking is what ypu've already seen, and finally, we are being outharvested by "uber" pure combat players who get novice scout and harvest rancors by the hundreds.

Well Camo Kits right now don't work at all in CU. I'm assuming they will be fixed. They better be anyway.


For all the testing I've done with Cover and ConcealShot so far, I've found it to be utterly useless in PVE fighting. Hopefully that will get addressed as well.
