So far I plan to be a Rifleman 4/0/0/4. I don't plan on mastering the profession. The question is should I go up any in the counter sniping or concealment trees? Are those skills worth taking if I am not going to be a master riflemen?

Thanks for the feedback.

Just to let you know Rifleman are not much of snipers as you think. You would be better going 0/0/4/4. Flushing shot is alot more useful. Its nice to get sniper shot in on a incapped person but its not going to help you in PvE or PvP unless you can get them down. Now Ideally you should go 4/0/4/4, if your not going to master the tree I don't see why you would take it. As its not like other proffession that you can just dabble in.

I am assuming you mean why take rifleman if you aren't going to master it right?

Thanks

Yes. The unfortunate part of Rifleman it doesn't complement any other professions. If you do a search on the board you'll find that a Rifleman really doesn't come into his own till he has almost Mastered the profession. In the snipping tree I only founds MS 2 and HS2 to be usefull but that all changed when I got Flushing Shot 2 in the counter-snipping tree. HS3 is waste of points due to the fact it doesnt hit any harder than HS2 and cost more in the Mind Pool.

The reason I don't want tomaster rifleman is because I want a few points left over to getsome pistoleer. Since I am dead a close range I needed something to compliment that. I had the commando, but since the 2.5x melee went into effect, the flame thrower isn't viable.

It is better to master riflemen, but do you think a 4/0/4/4 would be good enough?

Thanks for your feedback.

I would have to say that master rifleman is much much better than even a 4/4/4/4 rifleman. Although I haven't mastered the profession myself it's the speed increase that makes all the difference. At 4/4/4/4 you have a +70 to rifle speed, at master you have a +90. So... the difference on a 5.0 speed rifle with a 2x speed modifying special is 2 seconds. The master will shoot the special once every second, the 4/4/4/4 rifleman will shoot the special every 3 seconds. That makes a world of difference in DPS. I only wish I was able to master marksman to get the extra +5 to rifle speed.

I would say 1034. You get mindshot2 at 1000 and flushingshot2 at 0030. You get all the nice bonuses at 0004. It's only 3 more points (I think than) 4004 or 0044 and you get both of these crucial specials.

Since you are looking into pistoleer i would say, dont do it. Go Two-handed swords b/c their specials attack mind as well and at two-handed swords 2 you get the mind attack. You could probably get more if you wanted which i feel would heavily out weigh the rifleman/pistoleer combo because you can target the same pool as a rifleman/two-handed swords.

I am not an expert on this b/c i havent really used this combo much but stats wise it would be better.

ive used the rifleman/two handed sword combo before spraysticks were easily avalible for close range.and it is very nice. some nice mind damage at both long and short range. two handed swords also do mind bleeds that stack with your rifle mind bleed.... nasty

I agree with YGU above... 1034 gives you the best of what is available.

rifleman isnt a good profgession for having it just as a partial. there is a HUGE and plainly distinguishable difference between 4,4,4,4 and a master. i know cause i was amazed when i hit master.

as far as the best abilities go, if you do not decide to go full rifleman, go 3, 3, 3, 4 but that wont save you much on skillpoints.

3 points in accuracy and so you get surprise shot, which is great for soloing and all around a nice and effective single target dmg output.

3 points in concealment so your concealment abilities work and you get sneak ability, so you can move while under cover, albeit very slowly it counters the warping bug, and eventually they are going to fix teh BAF on concealed riflemen. it is a bug, and they stated so.

3 points in countersniping to get all the defenses and Flushing SHot 2. Startle SHot2 and FLushing SHot 2 have same dmg output and accomplish almost identical effect. so why go beyond the Flushing Shot 2 ?

and 4 points in SPecial abilities for the obvious speed and defense both of which you will desperately need.

other then that, just take it up to master. if you are trying to go half rifle, half pistol, i would strongly suggest just go master pistoleer, or master rifleman.

BTW unlike the above posters, i experienced rifleman to be extremely complimentary profession to any other prof that uses a lot of mind stats, such as doctor or artisans. rifleman / doc rocks, throw some minor pets in there and you are a major killing machine and unlike me, a doc will be able to take some hits due to the obvious nature of teh doc prof.

i'm currently master sharpshooter, master CH , 4,0,3,0 medic. its a pretty nice template, but kinda sucks in PvP, i get one shotted all the time. PvE is great though, i can heal my pets and myself, got terrain negotiation 4 and all the movement bonusses and meatshields so i dont need much armor.

"There was a huge difference between 4,4,4,4 and Master".

Anyone else find this statement odd? Ummm, 4,4,4,4 IS Master, all you have to do is get the training. I know, apprenctice training points, but c'mon please! I've been maxxed in training points for a couple of months now.

He means in the capabilities of the player, not what's needed to get there. The xp cost between the two is minimal, but the power of the master rifleman is much better than that of a 4/4/4/4 rifleman. Master gets a nice AE attack and a huge speed boost that the 4/4/4/4 doesn't have, makingthe mastermuch stronger (hence "huge difference")
